Seed splitting

Greetings.
Seed splitting, ceed section, is this common, what is this you ask?
I have had issues with having seeds shed their shell, it's happened 4 times in the past two runs , I have changed germing methods but I'm still helping these lil buggers crack, Im thinking that maybe is the level of moistureor.
Can anyone shine some light to the reason this is happening?
Questions and comments are welcome.

I had best luck with seeds in %100 compost. Cover them about 1/2 inch breaking up any clumps and drizzle water over them so they are thoroughly soaked. Then keep in a warm , moderately humid spot such as above a working dishwasher, and wait a few days

Worth looking into research papers about the role of compost in germination perhaps. With today's seed prices I don't blame people for being apprehensive

could the hardness/thickness be due to higher nutrient levels when the seed was developing?

firstly where were the seeds from? also there are some great threads about germinating seeds on this site ,try using the search ! moisture does seem to be the key,try dropping them into some ph 6 water until they split usually 24-48 hours .this may also help to soften the husk /shell enough to not be a problem .all the best .ww

hello i have a method for popping seeds its alil well alot more expensive then most ppl setups are or methods but i put seeds in at 10-11am and 9am the next morning i have about a 4 inch seedling with roots and a set of leaves (not the round starter leaves). could be wrong but i dont know any other method or way thats faster, ill probably just start a thread after i look through search to make sure no1 else has stumbled across this kinda grinds some ppls nerves when u dont look before u ask or speak.

but to be alil more on topic WW is prob right about soaking them

Place seeds in tepid water & place somewhere warm like a propagator set at 70-72*F , people will not agree but above 75 you will end up with a lot of males . Give 24hrs or so & if the seeds show tails then you have viable seeds . I have had some that took 48hr or near so just keep an eye on them .

...mornin' man, how about you try scuffing your beans before you begin your regular germination process?

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?threadid=153637Bean Scuffing Method

i'm pretty sure this will solve your problem if i understand your question.

peace, bozo

I'm surprised you have this issue canabuz, because your grows look great!

I agree, from only what my noobie brain has read here at icmag, that cut'in is the last resort. Scuffin before cuttin ? Do we need yet another acronym too? SBC

just so I can learn some of the issues I might face, what is exactly the problem? They don't pop or pop and die? Just learnin'

Thanks community.
I probably didn't clarify, I'm not having issues with them poping tales, that happens within 24hrs,I usually start seeds In the above fridge cabinet, it's the 1-3 days afterwards, where the seed breaks soil is when I notice that the husk would look dry, once I notice the dry looking husk I give 8-18, and if no progress I move in for "assisted splitin" of the husk, this started happening after I switched methods and started seed then buried it once tail pops, my old method was just poping them into rock wool and under the dome after 24hrs, I do think moisture i s key here, I'm going to do some more research.
By the way it mainly happends with seeds that have been stored for more then a year, and mainly from West Coast strains, funny enougth all my European seeds pop just fine.
Thanks all for the reply
