Now it appears that Green Bay might have been hosed again by the refs. Even now their is nobody that totally knows how the situation should be interpreted.
When GB scored and then kicked off to San Fran the kick returner hd the ball bounce off him and unto the ground then he batted it out of bounds through the back of the endzone. I thought at the time it should have been a safety and San Fran would have to free kick to the Packers. At the very least it would be a 10 yard batting penalty and the drive would start at the 10 yard line which could have made a big difference.
Now some say it was a safety, some say 10 yard line and some say Packers rekick from 10 yards up from original kick (which makes no difference then).
If you read the NFL rule book though it does say a ball can not be batted in the endzone in any direction and results in a safety.
On a kickoff if the ball hits the ground in the endzone before being touched by the receiver it is automatically dead and a touchback. If the ball is touched by the receiver and goes to the ground the receiver must gain possession and return it or take a knee for a touchback.
The ball hit the receiver and went to the ground and then he batted it out of the endzone.
I think the 49ers might have gotten away with one in this instance.
As for Colts at Patriots...... BRING IT!
