Yes, MM and others, using a microscope, have observed that with Seaweed, e.g., the microbes get off to a slower start, but they still take off. But is that a bad thing? It shows that they have more to process, and they are benefiting the plant by processing it. I do it both ways. Straight MO ACT, and at other times I let the herd process nutes for me, for my plants. Possibly granger, that's with kelp tho. You really have no idea what you're doing to the bacteria unless you have a powerful microscope, until than I'll stick to what the guys who do say and generally from what I can tell MM and others with a microscope say adding any sort of item beside ewc and molasses is a waste for the most part.
 
I thought it looked interesting enough to try out. I was motivated by the claim that it supports a fungal tea..

I got 1/2 pound for 10$ including shipping from feebay.
