hey friends i am kind of new to the sight ive actually done a lot of reading on here for the last year or so but just recently signed up for an account. so hello to all i have enjoyed doing some key learning here as i am a noob but i am ready to get going and im not shy to say even though i havent done any myself i have been extremely spoiled and very critical about my head. as if i was a veteran grower anyway enuf about me unless anyone is interested enuf to ask later i do need some help and i need it to be people with the knowledge of or direct experience of seeing REAL SOCAL OG of some sort preferably the planets and moons and even like louis the 13th OG something on the level of those strains in LA. i know a lot of people believe they have this or that and there is great things coming out of several diff parts of the country but when i lived in cali i felt as though iwas actually seeing the strain i was told and the quality was unmatched ive been to amsterdam a few times and the quality in cali of these unbelievably dense rock like nugs of real kush are the best flowers ive had as far as potency and taste maybe not always looks as pretty as others but worth it, anyway i want to know if anyone knows if i can achieve those top shelf of LA type of kushes with a hydro system or does it have to be dirt to get the flavor and the denseness that i have been spoiled with?? also lthe lights are still up to debate i want to do 400 mh for veg and i was wondering if i should mix metal halide and hps for flowering i was going to start off with 4 -1000w hps to flower my small startup untill i can grow the grow but what do you guys recommend to achieve what i want assuming there is someone here that knows what i mean and doesnt think im being a snob even thought that was my nickname in college !!

No problem, As for your question. You will get 100 different answers from the members here. Everyone prefers their method, their strain, and they will swear it produces the best smelling, tasting and burning bud their is. My advice. Just look around on here and pick whatever grow method you are comfortable with and go from there. You can have the best grown bud from any particular method and one mistake might ruin it. I personally think any method you choose to grow can have amazing quality, its all about what your comfortable with. Hope that helps a little

In the hydro forums, the KISS method in Hempy buckets is very simple.

In the organic forums, they tell you about dirt and teas. This can be a little more complex.

Do some reading and see what appeals to you and is possible in your particular garden. Research now prevents buttache later.

Don't go cheap and never work to minimums.

Have a nice day. bg

thanks bad gas i agree with you and i am doing extensive research and im not going cheap either i dont want to have to "upgrade" later so i just need to find a couple guys that know the quality im talking about because i have been on the sight for a long time doing some research and learning and i see a lot of guys impressed with things that arent so impressive to me and i dont want to sound like a snob but im just used to what im used to and through talking to others even though they may be knowledgeable they dont know the quality i am speaking of

Yes the best thing to do would be to start reading. Read and absorb like a sponge.

The density you speak of could have been caused by a flowering additive like "Gravity"
or similar products, but really nobody has a method for creating density in flowers.
It seems to happen as a result of the curing process, under certain storage conditions
the flowers will stabilize in a dense fashion. Also it has a genetic factor, but it seems
to be more of an effect of environment rather than genetics.

If you found these rock-hard flowers at a dispensary consistently year-after-year, it
would suggest that the density is caused by certain flowering products, probably a
combination of a flower hardener and a high-brix product that increases sugar production
in fruits. This would cause a very dense flower to develop. I'm leaning toward this
theory, however, it is possible to create high density under certain curing conditions.

Exactly what curing conditions are necessary to produce high density are really unknown.
I would theorize that it might have something to do with vacuum sealing over long
periods of time and stored in a cold environment with very low humidity. This is just a
guess, as I have never read about a method for creating such density.

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

thanks guineapig i appreciate the feedback i know its gotta be a "secret" or something because it is on another level type of flowers < i am determined to get to that level of both genetics and quality but i am not in or near LA anymore so i cant get babies really but i have heard some good things about banks having legit strains so we''l see

When you become an expert at either hydro or soil, you will get buds of the same quality. It has nothing to do with soil or hydro, it has to do with having the right conditions and the right strains and pheno's. I run hydro and soil and they are both the same except I have much less VEG times in hydro and get more yield.

what about taste in soil compared to hydro i hear that hydro cant compare in that category since you do both what do you think
