The fan is pretty quiet now that we've hung it by strings. About as loud as an average computer. Very easy to get used to and nobody has ever doubted the contents of the cabinet.
There is some heat from the exhaust, maybe 3-4 degrees above ambient. The room gets hot with everything closed and no AC. Definitely manageable though.

Hey there mate, great to have you.
How IS the El Alquimista? Could you give a short smoke report? :)

Day 1 Flowering

Day 1 Flowering

We implemented Scrub Ninja's idea for the light trap between veg and flower.

PH is hard to keep down with all this dolomite, we're slowly lowering water PH for balance.

El Alquimista:

White Widow:

The high PH created rust like spots on the leaves. El Alquimista was a lot more resistant than the White Widow, though.

El Alquimista's crown leaves:

We had to get rid of a lot of smaller branches to get the plants to live peacefully with the net so we ended up with a whole bunch of cuttings. Maybe to be sent to an outdoor project, maybe we'll even flower some of them.

We've also added reflective tape to the walls and ceiling of the flower chamber, to be seen next time we update.

My bad NKOTS, thought you meant El Alquimista is your fav strain.

I'll elaborate a little bit about the light trap (I was way too high yesterday for that :D).
That little thing works. It's scalable, efficient, standalone, easy to make, doesn't occupy much space at all and looks pretty good. I've been trying to make one for the past 6 months but never had the chance. We'll probably take off the bottom light traps one day and replace them with this light trap design.

Other news are, the powdered dolomite I added to the soil REALLY packs a punch. I probably turned it from slow release granules to quick release explosive PH powder because the plants take in 5.0 PH water and shit out 8+ PH runoff. Dolomite is excellent to keep the soil more or less stable but if you add too much the PH can really take off.
We also decided to make this a perpetual harvest. As soon as a scrog'd plant finishes we'll take the net out and replace it with a bunch of cuttings for a sog. Things are just so much easier in a sog setup. It's easy to take the plants out for various treatments, easy to water them (11L smart pots are pretty difficult to water because they're so porous, water just seeps out of one side), it's just so much better. Also, it's much easier to multi strain. Our veg area is big enough for 8 micro mothers, hopefully we'll get seeds and this dream can become a reality.

Having added mylar to the flower chamber, I can't help but wonder why people say flat white paint is any good. The flower chamber is actually painful to look at even with sunglasses now. The plants must receive 20-30% more light.

yep, been thinking of such contraption myself :good:
if it is not yet installed - can you show more pics from different angles?
in that pic above it seems to be made of flat pieces of metal(?) while scrubninja used a 90-degree pieces. i am probably wrong about yours but the pic just doesn't show.

You can even see the marking of a spacer on the shingle's right side. I made my spacers 1cm wide. The aluminium is just under 2mm.

Day 8 Flowering

Things are looking good overall, while the soil is funked (we'll have to experiment with the hydro store soil mix to find out who's to blame), the PH is back under control and new leaves seem happy enough.
The El Alquimista is a lot more hardy than this White Widow, so it did much better despite the hardships.

White widow is having a very mellow stretch. It'll let us put some clones into the flowering chamber before the big WW and EA get chopped. Our goal is to slowly switch to a sog system.

The mylar makes a huge difference - so much so that small light leaks became more significant and we had to work on the light proofing even though we thought that was way behind us.

Things are flowering up! Today we did a lot of training and defoliation.
The EA deals much better with the unbalanced soil.

I'm subbed. Love compact grows. Look forward to hearing about the EA. There is a book I read once that I really loved called the alchemist. Highly recommend it. Especially when smokin on some good stuff.

Love the setup man, not quite understanding how the bottom light traps work though... as far as the air flow in/out.
