First a quick idea how I grow....

I grow in turface..... using jacks (or petes) with calcium nitrate...

I top feed hourly a bout 5 minutes on.....55 off... using gravity distribution....

Works great..... thats about enough info for my question....

Im well aware that growing in a dwc environment requires some pretty chilly water because oxygen dissovles better in colder water....

In my case I dont think thats important....

I think the plants get plenty of oxygen because they are in turface....

Here is the question....if Im correct....

what temps should the water from the reservoir be...

Im thinking like 72 degrees..... maybe higher

A related question..... does cold water actually slow the plant down????

My expectation that for flood and drain the question would have the same relevance....

Love to hear some opinions....

Turface?

DWC bucket,no added oxygen for three weeks, rock wool, water at 75 and the plant grew great! It was a test I did to determine risk of temp and lack of oxygen during veg stage.

I don't know what flowering results would be but I'd guess a temp of sixty eight would suffice!

After some searching....I came up with this jewel.....

Simply put, the colder water gets the more oxygen it can retain. The warmer water gets the less oxygen it can retain. However, if water is too cold the lant will stop taking up food.

Therefore, a balance needs to be achieved between ideal temperatures for nutrient uptake and ideal temperatures to ensure adequate oyxgen is available to the roots of the plant.

The ideal water/nutrient temperature for oxygen availability and nutrient uptake is between 68 and 71.6 degrees F.......

Looks like about 70 degrees is ideal....

I think running at higher temps....would also call for a lower ph..... 6.0 or less....

There is nothing wrong with using a chiller to keep your water 65 to 70 degrees. If you keep your room around 75 or so your plants are going to be done before any serious root problems. Especially if you change out your water once a week.
When you get up to the high 70's and into the 80's problems are going to start happening eventually. Every couple of weeks run a diluted treatment of chlorine or peroxide if your having root rot problems.
If you keep your water temps in the mid 70's you should be ok.
