looking super clean. ill be taking notes. so if the out side is the walk way do you not go in the middle under the lights? one thing i hate about vert gardening is having to play minesweeper in your mind before you stand up to avoid getting a toasted ear or frying some hair. if you dont have to do that in your set up i like it even more. plus its easy to forget to move back the fans if you accidentally kick them or move them etc.

Exactly. I have not had to play chicken with the lights yet ;) I have burns on both shoulders from last grow ;) I can train them, tie them, bend them etc from behind so there is no reason for me to be underneath the lights where all my fans and drain lines and such are ... The only thing that happens then is I mess shit up. You're right, if I move my fans chances are I'm not putting them back

Well, I didnt notice anything funky yesterday after the incandecents had been on for 8 hrs during the dark cycle. Im hoping the one fuck up wont be anything but a small hiccup, but we will see.

Starting to plan for the future...And I only have 2 Strains! 2!

So, Pheno hunting time.

Hit up a few dispensarys around town and picked these up;

46fklVP.jpg

Reserva Privada - Citrix (Grapefruit X La Confidential)
Reserva Privada - Hemlock (Durban Poison x La Confidential)
Rare Dankness - Scotts OG
Rare Dankness - Lee Roy TK (Lee Roy X Triangle Kush)

Labeled up some cups and filled with some room temperature tap water

And placed the seeds in the cups and put em in the cupboard overnight

Hey man. glad to see every things going alright. Especially after some of those airflow comments.

I grew out the LA confidential back in 08/09? and what a great strain. Ive heard great things about durban poison and am excited to see that cross.

I have a little stock pile of rare dankness myself and am a bit jealous of those Scott og's.
I have ghost train haze #1, #9, Somalia's taxi ride, and fort collins cough tw haze. All waiting to be grown out. Waiting for my new place and still have about a year to wait.. :(

I saw you said your pheno hunting. Any specific phenos? You have lottssss of room to play with more strains? Keep it simple i guess. Good luck. I will lurk on....

Just gonna keep it simple. Probably stay with my 6 strains, and that'll give me enough variety to run for the next year or two.

As far as popping beans goes;

I popped 13 New House Seeds Cerebral Haze a few days ago. They all germ'd except 1...But like a few other seed pops ive done, as soon as they left the coco, they get super tall, skinny, lanky, and about half of them keeled over. I have a 4' 8 Bulb T5 light about 12'' above them. Why are my seedlings stretching so bad?? This isnt the first time its happened either. I see other people pop beans and out comes this perfect plant. I have NEVER had that. What am i doing wrong?

Heres my process;

1.)Tap water, room temperature for ~24 hrs
2.)Then into paper towels for ~24 hrs
3.)Plant in solo cups of rinsed coco with tap root down.
4.)~24-48 hrs later all have broken the surface(many of the new house didnt get rid of their helmet for a few days)
5.)~1 week they just stay small with the two tiny little leaves
no growth of the leaves, just stretching of the thin stem. The coco is on the drier side of moist, but not dry.

It seems like all my seeds do this. What am i doing wrong!?!?

try putting a fan on them and lowering the light? check surface temps when doing this! Also you could mess around with the spectrum and go to 2700k.

What spectrum are you at now?

blowing air on them?

Im no expert but possibly putting more air on them will cause them to build their stalk more sturdy and not stretch as fast. Could be the strain also unless your comparing your same strain, same pheno to their same strain, same pheno.

On to new problems;

Go into the room this afternoon and on 3 out of the 18 plants, the leaves on the budsites (not the major fan leaves for the most part) are getting hella droopy. Research leads me to believe this is Nitrogen Toxicity??

Im feeding D9 Recipe 3:2 @ 1.5 ec. I checked my runoff, and its coming out at 6.0ph and 1.5ec. Exactly the same coming out as it is going in.

I diluted my res down to .8ec, and we'll see how they react over the next day or so...Anybody have any other suggestions, ways to fix, etc. What am I looking at in my plants, and do I need to change the recipe to fix it??

Heres a couple pics of plants 1 and 2 exhibiting the worst signs

Gt4x8Ks.jpg

This is what the average plant looks like...Looks like they're all about to start getting a bit droopier.

Not sure if it matters, but the light closest to these two plants wasnt turned on for the last week or so because I was using it in my veg room. I just plugged it back in 2 days ago, now the plants closest to that light are exhibiting the worst signs. Doubt it matters, just an observation

A little follow up, i feel like a noob who doesnt know what I'm doing.. Do i know what I'm doing? Fuck sometimes it feels like it and other times I'm not so sure..

After noticing the symptoms of nitrogen toxicity i diluted my res down to .8ec.

Went out to the bar, come home...Everythings back to perfect. 3 hours later.

Cannabis doesnt work like this. I must be drunk

I saw top shoots clawin the last pic set , but waited for YOU to notice it and respond Bro....and guess what.....

You saw it and reacted so that`s just 1 less thing to worry bout next run when dialin nutrient requirements.....now.....The guy that posted bout puttin fans blowin directly on plants to strengthen stems and "possibly" control stretch needs ta do some more homework ........

When you point fans directly at plants indoors , ALL it does is cause excess transpiration that in turn DIRECTLY affects nutrient uptake that will RIGHT behind it cause ph issues and potential lockouts and imbalances if not handled......and....

Silicablast for stemwall strength and overall plant health is solid info for floppy stems , and glad you`re loggin al these issues into memory Dabs , cuz it only gets better and easier from here.....anyways....

Keep strokin Bro......DHF....:ying:.....

Whats the temps ?

Hanging upside down canoe looking leafs can sometimes also be a sign of slightly to much heat for a too long a periode during lights on.

Looking great this thread...

Would you agree with my diagnosis? Too much N? Also, I just diluted the res, i didnt "fix" anything. As far as a response, clearly shes not as N hungry, but i Know i need my Ca. She also seems a bit finiky towards P. I think she likes it, but its hard to tell as only one pheno particularly has ever shown signs like that.

Since stretch is about over, and clearly they dont need extra N, I feel like I need to change up the recipe... or should i just back down to 3:2 @ 1.2ec? They are being fed 5x a day now.

I was feeding D9 @ 1.5ec. Nute profile looks like this:

N P K Mg S Ca
81-28-114-34-44-67

Too much N

D9 @ 1.2
64-22-91-27-35-53

Or, theres Mister D's option to go 2g/2g and dilute to 1.2ec. This would yield;

N -P - K -Mg-S-Ca
72-19-76-23-29-67

They look fairly similar, not sure how to test which would be better.

Fans kick on at 82, and shut off when it gets to 75. I'll set climate controller to 78 with a 2 degree deadband and keep it between 76-80 and see if theres any difference. I like to keep it at 82 so the humidity and foggers have a chance to do their thing before all the fans turn on and shit goes nuts

Also freds, Silica blast..how early on seeds...I thought you were supposed to wait to feed until the first jagged set of leaves started to get bigger and then start to yellow

Try using T8's for starting seeds. That's how I do mine and I pop seeds like a junkie shoots dope. I can put the bulb just about on the plant. I have seedlings right now that have 3 sets of branches and they are only 4" tall. Nice thick stems on them too. The air in the area I start my seeds is always circulating too. I use roots organic in coco at 2 tsp per gallon until about a week after the plant comes up. Then they get lower strength grow food until I think they can take full strength.
