Organic benefits???

The main reason I run organic soils is the ease of use. Mix and forget, really. Just add water from start to finish, no pH'ing, not mixing nutes. Plain ole tap water.

The flavor of my herb is superior to when I used synthetics, yields are about the same.

some facets of the answer are subjective

for example i have noticed properly grown hydro versus organic that hydro had a more narrow range of flavor but the flavors that were present were pronounced with organics i tend to get a greater range of flavors albeit with a greater balance of under and over tone

others are not

plant health can be proactively addressed with organics avoiding the need to adulter a non toxic plant with toxins of any sort which means more harvests at a lower cost and effort over the long term

the only real performance difference ive seen is time, proper hydro systems save a lil in time from start to maturation, but imho the time is nominal all things considered

growing organically means you get to lord it up over the mere mortals, as you sneer down at them from that lofty perch upon your high horse :D

its quite good fun until the 'more organic than thou' cavalry arrive on their giraffes and turn the tables on you. Luckily they refrain from p1ssing on your parade - because liquid ferts are against their religion :tiphat:

Knowing that you are lessoning the amount of chemicals you are putting into your body, as well as others. I can't figure out how people want to grow "medicine", and use chemicals.

It's an oxymoron at best. :)

Hey VerdantGreen, that about hits the nail on the head! :) I'm back over here from another forum, and I have been "organic" for just about ever, never even touched a hydro system.
I have a huge issue with these hosers taking this "way" of growing too seriously.

I am benefited by growing as naturally and organically as possible in knowing I am one with my small ecosystem; outdoors becomes indoors. Also, one of the biggest benefits are things like homemade compost. I can easily know whats in it, and make sure that everything goes back to the land (or growroom). No waste. That, in general, feels good.

I have certainly noticed the plethora of organic fertilizers in the world and the one thing over any bottled nutrient that they have is the ease of use. Add to mix, top-dress, not a big deal. The plant and soil life will balance pH and other things for you. Let the plant do the work (like it's supposed to), and sit back and roll a ball of hash.

Last of course, effect, potency and medical value, also flavor, aroma are critically effected by salt fertilizers. IMO hydro is not medicine. It cannot compare. It is not food, and if I wouldn't eat it, I'm not smoking it. The range of aromatic terpenes are vastly different in hydro vs. organic. And as we are learning more about terpenes we are seeing how important they are as effective medicine especially in cannabis. Organic soil can be that key in terpene/essential oil content/development.

I see reused soil gardens, and "no-till" all the time, and set up with dripper systems, I don't see any difference in that from a hydro situation. As most hydro growers I know are going for the easiest possible "solution". Hydro isn't easy nor is it fun IMO, meters and testing, and reservoirs take away from my experience with cannabis.

Lacroix. Just do it man.

organic... benefits... well lets see...
do U value mankind, mother earth, and the generations to come...
do U believe in truth, do U believe in doing the right thing...
do U see the value of equality... thus
then the benefits of organics speak for them selves...

organics is a life practice, not a trend...
embrace mother nature, distrust BIGPHARMa.....

I have never matched yield with organic soil vrs hydro. but quality is top notch. organic allows me to gather a lot of what I need. like compost, wormcastings and seaweed from ocean along with other stuff. it also has allowed me to toss away meters, pumps ,res coolers. ect ect ect.organic is a bit above chems to me . quality over quantity. I don't preach organic, peeps can grow however they want and get good results. but for me organic rules. being able to give the middle finger to chem companies gives me a boner too. I think the knowledge you gain going organic makes ya better grower in the end.worms live in my soil cant say that about chems

Great replies, thank you and I'm in agreement. Another concern I have about Organics is how organic can anything on this fucking planet really be? For example, I know a lot of the seaweed is harvested from the cold northern pacific waters. What about all the damned radiation floating over from japan. How will that affect what we are putting in our organic soil?

i am hoping for a glowing mj plant^^^^^^^^. ya theres a lot of pollution and contamination. like if i use horse shit . what has horse consumed? if i use a plant product how was it grown? ect ect ect . i don't get too technical and aint a purist as i aint on farm anymore. you can take the organic thing as far as you want. dandelions make great addition to compost pile and the wine aint bad either........ peace

Depends on the ph of your organic fert. Mj enjoys a mildly acidic soil. Many ferts are alkalline. It's recommended to always test the ph of what goes in and out of your soil.

I enjoy the broad spectrum oils with organics. Chem is pungent in one area of smell. Organics can grow bud that looks and smells very different than chem bud. It's all about what the grower dials in.

Bio char is said to increase yeild. Usually chem growers get more yeild. Depends on the grower. It can all be as complicated or as simple as you make it.

charcoal is not biochar. Biochar has had the fuel removed but not burned. Charcoal has fuel that remains. Using charcoal is not going to hoast living organisms in a safe manor that biochar will. People here on icmag are confused. There is a huge price difference in biochar versus charcoal, as they are manufactured much differently.

6.5 is good for soil and 5.8 is good for hydro. Better to be a little higher than those than lower.
