When so many other places would send you on your way with a fine at most. fucked up shit, hope it works out for the best. you got caught by the revenue gathers. lawyer can quickly cost way more then the fine. although fighting it is much better for the cause, it's your call and i hope you beat this thing. or at least get it down to a small fine. impounding the car was additional punishment, the judge should take that into consideration. anyway, good luck.

The fucked up part is you were trying to help your mom, and went well out of your way to get the car roadworthy, when all of this shit happened! Good luck. IMO find a lawyer who has worked as Assistant DA or is chummy with the judges--ideally one who is pot-friendly. You could try Googling the NORML lawyer to see if anything's been said about him, and then meet him and see what you think and what he has to say.

Six days, an impounded car and $900 in fines on top? No Vaseline and no reacharound in the sticks, huh?

I'm glad I no longer live in the US...things are much simpler here.

Talking to a NORML lawyer who works in that town today, he was a asst states prosecutor so he should know those guys, its all about who you know sometimes. Hes talkin 150 an hour on his website, better than the 400 an hour they charge in my city.
