"Thank you Miles for that report about the over priced legal weed in Denver."

"And at 5 O'Clock, we investigate the elusive 40 day strains that seem to be so popular in the marijuana shops. They don't appear to have any psychoactive effects, but they smell dank as fuck."

"Now back to Tina to tell us about how the tax revenue from recreational marijuana sales will be used to educate our children into a mild retardation.":)

I get the joke,
and since i'm playing mr. newsreporter (anchorman?), I'll fill everyone in that around 3:30 yesterday a cold front moved in and denver got dumped upon; a slushy mix of hail and snow and sleet (graupel, technical name), so everyone in line got a lil more cold and wet for their rec weed.

i've been told by a very trusted lawyer in denver that rec weed shops can stay open till midnite just like liquor stores.

legal rec weed prices should be $10 a g including taxes.... if its more than that.... your being suckered

200 a oz plus taxes 25% (fu tax) plus 2.9 % (sales tax) around $260 out the door

That 25% tax is exaggerated. Weed passing from the grower to the retailer is taxed at 15% of the supposed price of $1876/lb, which brings it up to $2157.25. Considering that same pound will retail out at ~ twice the amount, that's really only ~7% of the out the door price. Then add 10%, 2.9% & 3.5% for Denver to arrive at the bottom line. Total taxes are more like 23% than 32%.

Still less total taxes than cigarettes, considering that the price of cigs encompasses a whole shitpile of hidden taxes.

Now that it's a legal market, the price will become whatever the market will bear. If the price is too high, it won't sell. That can impact the supply chain in a variety of ways.

We're still dealing with the Med store paradigm of selling, which may not hold at all. Once producers get it really dialed in, we'll be able to buy copyrighted brands of pot the same way we buy brands of beer or cigarettes. Like Bud or Marlboros, the same everywhere. Those who want to pay for Med store style service will still have the option, I'm sure, like upscale liquor stores specializing in wine, cognac & imported liquor.

Other than that, just tell the guy you want a pack of Reeferoonios, an eighth of longbottom leaf, or whatever, pay up, take it home like a sixpack.

day 3, still lines around the building, perhaps longer lines today than yesterday and "day 1", supply is holding.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering how the supplies would last as the buyers kept lining up.

Wonder if any one has been busted yet for driving high? Lol what a joke.

Rock on Colorado! Maybe you'll pave the way for my conservative state!!

I think maybe you're right about cops, driving, & toking. Like you said, it's important for everybody to be smart & stay cool. Put the bag in the trunk & drive somewhere private, like home. Probably best to save getting baked silly until then, anyway.

OTOH, having the cops about keeps the strongarm artists at bay. Just doin' their jobs, protecting Colorado merchants. Let's face it- there's a shitpile of cash going thru the pitifully small number of retail outlets.

Once the initial furor dies down, it'll be like going to the liquor store. No big deal.

The weather has been great, too. Well, until today, few inches of snow so far which may put a crimp in the festivities. I'm not going anywhere I don't have to go until it stops.

Eureka Springs Organics

3D was packed today. The parking lot did not have parking spaces. A lot of out of towners. They even had some people from Japan in there. Medicine Man was not to busy today. They seemed much slower than 3D.

3D is closed today and Tuesday (1/7) so that they can regroup.

Here's the latest list...

Went by Evergreen Apothecary, again, this morning ~11:00. The line was a lot smaller, so I went for it. Scored some Strawberry Diesel & Buddha's sister. $50 per eighth + tax, $121.12. Took ~1 hour. Off duty Denver cops as security. Chatted at one of 'em for a bit who was smiling, who said it was all super smooth. Gravy Train for him, hangin' with the stoners, and he knew it.

The Diesel, which I'd never previously sampled, has solid clout, more stoned than high, with a bit of a bitter metallic aftertaste. Nice head rush to it, coming on just about... now.

It'll get smoked.

Tried the Buddha's Sister. Also potent, better taste than the diesel, mostly stoney.

Neither are anything really special. I didn't expect them to be, really. I just wanted to be there & to be part of it.

Every bit of what I've grown is every bit as good, except for the Satori & the Ultraviolet, which are better. I'm mostly trying to use retail to help me figure out the scope of modern weed. I didn't toke for 25 years, so I have some catching up to do.

temporary old school pricing...

7 grams of Bruce Banner for $110.00 USD. Top shelf, IMO.

She thanked me my contribution to the tip jar.

The 10 buck pre-rolled sucked donkey dick.

I don't think Med prices have budged in Colorado, and the taxes are a lot lower. High retail prices are currently the result of short supply, limited access & high demand. It's what the market will bear, and I expect that to change as supply increases & more shops go retail.

Washington? Dunno, but the liquor board clearly isn't to be trusted.
