Yogurt Cup Challenge

I had some med probs, then the camera when to hell, and a resulting cluster fuck.

Never happy and always curious, I figured, why not make a small cabinet for a Square foot challenge, I built a new LED light, then blue it up, then built another one but had to go with white and blue 10w LEDs as LEDs from china take forever.

Lots to input, so on to the next installment.

very interesting, small time, what your flowering schedule, like, how long into flowering are those?

Hey Small Time I admire your persistence. Hell I think that is more important than any grow results. Way to go.

Yeah Avi Dyna Gro is kind of an under the radar group of products that give great results for very reasonable prices.

This was two weeks ago and the last of the blue lights, and back with reds, blues, and whites.

I've been running the hydro at 7 days per water change with refill of just water to top it off. The tank is just 1 gallon.

The roots have slowed down, the flowering is progressing. I forgot to mention Flowering started five weeks ago even though I was using white/blue lights.

Time for bed. I'll finish up last week and do tomorrows pictures to get me caught up tomorrow night. I'm really surprised how well and large they have been growing. I'll be running right to the wire.

I better fill in here a bit. The first set of pics I had been flowering for a week. This set of pics was four weeks ago. I'm at about 5.5 weeks. Blowing up the red LEDs had me waffling if I should flower or wait, and after China took forever for new LEDs I just started flowing with the white/blues.

I didn't mind that much that I was late because I was trying to clone and cause more branching. Once I saw everything had become an LED clusterfuck, I decided to see how far I could push push it all whlei staying in the rules. The roots got trimmed once a week, but the only one that actually grew out of the cup was the Bogglegum. The one called runt never grew out of the cup, while other two had three or four hairs that were maybe 1-1.5 inches after a week. They haven't grown grown out at all the last week and a half. To trim the roots, I just rubbed them off at first, then realized I could trim few hairs by removing the root ball to take pictures. I can't get the root ball out for a picture anymore, but then the roots are no longer growing out of the cup.

I've trimmed tons of leave off. About 5% per week, but I think I could have pulled more. I'll answer any questions tomorrow.

Nice Small Time! I agree with the others, your persistence is admirable. It's fun to push the envelope with these little guys and see what happens -- the results are useful science, not production :)

On the grams per watt thing, I have no idea what it would have been. I had my plant in my grow room with six other full size plants but it no doubt benefited from all of those lumens from my 1,000 watt bulb.

same here, my yogis were WAY far from bulbs this round... whereas in the past I've hung them from hoods so they were RIGHT UP IN them lumens.

couple of macro shots of my buddah's sister in the yogurt cup.

Almost caught up. My fixed LED fixture. It needs a transistor change as the reds are still a little weak. Better to start weak than blow up another set.

No roots showing and need trimming, but no problems... Just not going to meet the harvest and dry deadline.

Things I learned.

Only changing water once a week with a 1.2 gallon container is NOT often enough. The plants grow, but not well.

Using forced water infiltration does keep things healthy in tiny yogurt pots and will work well.

Using 5-4 plants of differing strains really screws up the plants as the different strains have differing needs.

At the most two strains might be manageable in the same tank.

Small tanks NEED more water changes. I may try adding more nutrients mid way through a water change and see how that works.

If things are working, DON'T make changes just to see what happens. I use a 400w MH for house plants and had started the seeds in the house plant area. Changing to the LEDs in a small 1sq/ft area, didn't work well and case burning, and over crowding. I got a new Home care nurse and needed to put things under cover.

When in a contest that demands finishing on time, seeds are not the way to go.

When in a tight time frame, don't worry about growing bushes.

" " Use clones! Seeds take much more time sorting the good and the males.

Heat is your enemy. Running the pump 24/7 was a real set back when I didn't catch the heat. 10 minutes off, and 1-2 on, worked very well with no heat problems.

There are more, but it's all been covered by others. This has been VERY informative. Next time, the gloves are coming off.
