I read a book on body language and they say how us humans, in general, only believe something when we see it

so even if people hear how Tobacco can rot your teeth, give you cancers, damage your lungs, your skin, give you erectile dysfunction...

people don't really believe it because most have not really seen the effects of Tobacco, seeing someone on their death bed or getting operated for all these problems, or having to speak with a hole in their throat

The ads feature sad, real-life stories: There is Terrie, a North Carolina woman who lost her voice box. Bill, a diabetic smoker from Michigan who lost his leg. And Aden, a 7-year-old boy from New York, who has asthma attacks from secondhand smoke.

Some of you say that second hand smoke is not dangerous, lots of studies say otherwise.

Maybe like I said earlier, you have to see it to believe it...

You can't really make any definitive calls on the risks based on a handful of stories. Sure the stories of young children developing cancer makes it seem like it must be true but for every child that has developed cancer or some other health problem potentially from second hand smoke there are many more who have not. Same with first hand smoke, some people develop complications at an relatively early age (the 48 year old) while other smoke all their lives and die in their 80's or 90's of other non smoking related causes.

In heart disease, diabetes, and a number of other major health conditions science has now identified certain genes that may be responsible making people predisposed to these problems. I think the same is true for lung cancer and other "cigarette related problems" some people are genetically predisposed while others are resistant. This would account for why some develop problems and some don't when exposed to cigarette smoke or when actively smoking.

Now it's not been proven but in response to the suggestion Marijuana may cause the same cancers that tobacco does, I'm not so sure. I follow the logic and it's reasonable but there's no proof yet that I know of. Additionally I've heard of studies done that while not proving it, strongly suggest the active ingredients in marijuana may suppress the ability of cancers to form. While other studies suggest it may actually reverse cancer. Just do a google search on Marijuana fights cancer and you will get quite a few hits documenting these claims.

smoke of any type can cause damage to the lungs including scarring which can potentially turn into cancer

think about the respiratory dangers of a firefighter

cigarettes and pot smoke are both smoke but there are other chemicals in cigarettes added by the manufacturer

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cigarette_smoke_carcinogens

now if you want to understand the effects of air pollution like smoke take a look at china

http://money.cnn.com/2013/07/09/news/china-air-pollution/

Air pollution cuts life expectancy by 5.5 years in China - study

that is simply the byproduct of coal smoke which in great enough concentration starts to eat years of the inhalers life

there are plenty of examples of causation of people breathing in other peoples pollutants and suffering for it

Old news Harry.
Second hand smoke causing cancer was de-bunked years ago. Amer. Lung Assoc. quoted a "study" by some yahoo who used anecdotal "evidence" without a modicum of science involved. From there it became a mantra by the victim types and was treated by gospel by the anti-smoking crowd.

Fine if you don't like a room full of smoke. I wouldn't like it if I was a non-smoker either, but to claim that it's gonna kill you is beyond ridiculous and always has been.

But the nervous nelly nannies always get their own way because they make the most noise.

Boston just outlawed smoking in public parks...OUTSIDE.

Fucking nitwits.

The only thing that has been deemed questionable is the contribution of second hand smoke to lung borne cancer not other respiratory ailments like asthma emphysema or the like

also those studies were not debunked as many times as they were falsified by tobacco companies for which they admitted and paid the 100 of billions in fines

If there truly no dangers the tobacco companies would never have doctored studies in the first place

how many billion do they make a year to continue to influence the truth?

Anyone that is voting against smoking cigarettes is also voting against smoking weed and I happen to love smoking weed!
As weird related smoke is smoke.
More than a few folks i know who have quit cigarettes are now on prescription meds, which are alot cheaper than cigarettes. This extra money can be put towards their new health care plans.
