How I wish that some of those were still commercially around. But I suppose there is too many landraces for seedbanks and too little people who want to grow these longflowering ones...

Not fully African ,put partly.Swazi red x [mango haze x sweet pink grapefruit].The pictures are not the best, and from last year ,all from seed.I had four different phenotypes, the best being the one with blood red calyxes.I hatched my last 5 seeds and i'm left with two females in my mini grow cab that will be grown scrog and then sog next time round once i find my favourite of the two.The Swazi red ibl i grew also at the same time but cannot for the life of me find the pictures. The red calyx pheno of that was also the best ,so this trait must be from the swazi parent in the mangospg cross.Looking forward to smoking this again, great weed.Salut Roms!ras-pect!

About the origin of SA strains there is also my little theory more deep in the past before the Bantu and whites migration. I mean antediluvian times...
So as you know I think about the bushmen Khoisan who arrived from Indonesia to Madagascar (austronesians).
Indians, Arabics and whites pop arrived far after... A nice track with the dogs is the old genetic Ridgeback, present only in South Africa and...
Thailand. :smoke:

I just finished reading this thread over the last two days. I love this thread. There are so many beautiful strains that I'd like to try. Good job by all for so many great contributions.

Roms - I keep thinking I see Thai genetics in many of these strains, especially the Angola and Ethiopian. Then again, I saw some pictures of roadside weed growing in north eastern India that looked just like Thai to me also. India seems to be the source of weed for places all over the world.

I just got done growing my first African related crosses. I'm waiting for a slow dry before I sample.

Golden Tiger (Malawi x Thai):

Smells like earthy carrot, honey, bitter chocolate, and pepper.

Bangi Haze (Bangi Congo crossed with others):

Very pungent anise, hash, and onions, but in a good way!

Cheers,

ThaiBliss

This example resembles the Malawi female parent in the cross with a Haze hybrid. The taste and smell is similar to the cherry pheno of AK47.

Malawi (pure)

Malawi (pure)

Here is a small female out of a handful of seeds I sprouted. It was the only one to make the cut. The purpose here is just to familiarize myself with the different phenos contained in the batch. I can only grow a few at a time. If I come across and good or great specimens, the next time I grow them I can look for similar individuals and will probably cross them to hybrids to have faster growing seeds. These seeds were weak and slower growing than commercial strains.

The mother was an Afropips Malawi Gold (reg., not the compact version). The father was from African Seeds Malawi Gold which I understand was from cobs. Despite regular MG, the female parent was short and stocky.

Does anyone remember when Afropips first offered Senegal Haze? I have read many people claim that it is crossed to a nhxssh. The problem is I don't think they are the same phoenix hazes. I could be wrong; but, what connection did Afropips have with JLP?

Great thread!
...
are any of his strains still available?
Afropips is back (on Facebook, that is) and somehow linked to or a subsidiary of Nguni-Seeds... Even though Afropips claims several of the strains to be re-launched, Nguni only offers Swazi and Durban as heirloom strains alongside some rather commercial hybrids.

Afraid not ;( .
You don't need an F-Book account to visit their site. They use the name Daggaseeds if I'm not mistaken (rather confusing, I know...) but you find it if you search on google for nguni seeds and facebook ;) .
I can send you the links as PM if you want...
