hi.

i need help with my grow. please help me figure out what im doing wrong.

ive got two babies. one lemon kush, the other nl x skunk 1. they are two weeks old. one gal pots with 8 drainage holes. ive got 400 w for a total of 26k+ lum. my soil mix is 3 gal mg potting soil, 3 gal perlite, 1 qt compost.

growth was explosive until day 11. on day 10 i watered each plant with 1.9 l. my soil pH is 5.8 and the water ive been using has been 7-7.5.

on day 12 i woke up to high temps. 80 f. ive been between 70-76 before that. the lemon kushs first set of fans began yellowing. next day i had rams horns.

flushed on day 13 like a dumbass. figured out later that my nemesis might have reared its ugly head yet again--- pythium. root rot.

yesterday i let the babies do their thing. no growth. so today i went into emergency mode and extracted the babies from their medium, sprayed the soil out of the roots with h2o and examined them.

completely white. im at a loss now. just for good measure is sterilized everything, rinsed the roots in 3 parts h2o, 1 part h2o2, and transplanted the babies into new sterile soil. well see how that goes.

my nute regimen has been the 2-10-2 or whatever in the mg soil plus mg tomato food that is 18-21-18. ive been putting a tbsp in each gal.

any ideas? :thank you:

WAY too much food! The soil has plenty of food in it to feed those seedlings for at least a month. Less is more. Read some threads bro

thanks man.

im such a newbie i should have noticed that. i doubled checked the mg potting mix and it says "Fertilizer Analysis: 0.21 - 0.07 - 0.14"...that means 0.21%-0.07%-0.14% right? seems like a tiny amount of food.

im going to do my homework and read even MORE threads (been lurking for months) but do you have any tips for nursing these gals backs in the meantime? thanks

Lesson learned here is that seedlings shouldnt be given nutes. With the size container you have, seedlings shouldn't require any additional nutrients for several weeks. As a basic rule of thumb, when it comes to fertilizers, chemical or organic, less is more. Use them lightly. You can always increase the dosage if the plant needs it but once you have over fertilized, it can be tough to "bring it back" and the stress to the plant can be great.

I always suggest that new gardeners think about the plant logically. They have basic needs right?

Light, CO2, water

It really is that simple. Think balance. You feed the soil, the soil feeds the plant, plant provides for you, so in essence: Soil is happy, plant is happy, you are happy.

I sincerely wish you good fortune.

Using Miracle gro was your first mistake. That shit will kill your plants.

If you are on the west coast you can use Kelloggs patio mix which is like 5 dollars a bag.

If not I suggest using Fox Farms.

Now they are probably shocked since you removed them from the soil.

I'd say start more seeds if ya got them. Start them in some "seed starter" mix. Mix in some of that compost u got and some perlite. Don't really need a 400watt light yet either just a couple 6500k cfl bulbs. Everything you need you can get from Walmart or lowes. Don't keep them too wet either, easy to drown seedlings in the first few days

If those were the only 2 seeds ya had flush each container with about 2 gal of ro water and then be patient for a couple weeks

Miracle Gro does not kill plants. Inexperienced growers kill plants.

I have seen countless, perfectly healthy plants grown in MG. If Canna put MG soil in their own bag and sold it as is, there would be threads telling people how great it is.

your biggest mistake is overwater. let those things dry out man.

Please provide evidence of such.

Yeah because people LOVE smoking bud with ferts in it.

How are you going to flush the soil when it feeds it every time you water?
Not to mention it has 6-9 months worth of ferts in the soil...

jeez kid why don't you go get some experience before you come in here blowing hard all over everything, those nutes in the soil hardly last 6-9 months. lol you'll be lucky if they last 6 weeks. marijuana plants are not marigolds son. they eat way more food than houseplants.

6 weeks from seed, only thing this soil has in abundance is nitrogen and even that will be gone by the time you finish flowering if you don't add more.

less old wives tales, more actual facts.

"....Miracle Gro does not kill plants...."

but it sure makes it easier for inexperienced growers to kill em.
