Just got the feeling of getting out for the first time

So I've been a small time grower for a long time now and I'm well known for producing the best in my area. I've challenged others and myself to show me better because I wanted to get better buds out there for everyone. I think I'm about done. Prices are plummeting, the market is flooded with complete garbage, and no one gives a damn. Growers are charging next to nothing and putting out a crap load of crap weed on the cheap. The sad part is its what the people want. How can I compete with that? I remember getting $4k/lb and it made the risk worth it plus everyone was getting higher quality at below market in my circle. Now to pique interest it's $2k in my area, but how low can I keep going? These guys keep pumping out lower and lower quality at higher yields and it's messing up the market. I don't know what to do anymore. I can buy enough shit weed for cheap that it'd last me a lifetime of personal, probably cheaper than the cost/risk of growing. With buyers disappearing and the old circle getting older there's almost no point anymore. I have a degree in molecular bio and I actually might make more as a lowly lab tech running PCRs all day. I love working with Cannabis and now that's gone. Sorry if this is lame, but I had to express it to people who might understand.

hey man take a break . its cheap around sequoia for an extended vacation lol. I am consider relocating back east as things have changed ,theres better fishing and hunting too. the northeast is changing.i don't know where you are but cali can be a tough market too. I do ok when doing my thing but back east was 4x easily without trying and refusing new friends lol.i keep meeting growers that use stuff on their crops I wouldn't ever and some of em call it medicine.i did meet one older than me grower, he was organic and he received several packs seeds and my refusal of money.

Sounds like you need expand your client base. Still getting at least 44 a p here. Most people buy regular hydro tomatos at $2 / pound and others buy heirlooms at $6.50. There will always be a market for boutique bud but you need to find the right client. Some people still get 4k a p in cali.

well unfortunately

all good things have to come to an end

the inflated prices of marijuana had to fall down sooner or later

seems like you we're not the one paying 4k for a pound

Hello all,

It would seem that the tide of prohibition is receding and the black market that grew in its shadow is also receding.

Its about time.

There is no reason for the black market high prices to stay high.

As for poor quality flooding the market...well, in my neck of the redwoods, nearly every person I know that grows for profit feels theirs is the best but get butt hurt when they can't move their product for what they feel its worth.

The money in cannabis is moving to the legal market...the tides have changed and the bio degree may be your saving grace.

As for myself, I have not had to buy weed in years and my buds as good as any in harborside or their like because it is free (personal time and money are free to me).

Just for myself I have saved many thousands of dollars that otherwise would have lined the pockets of others...

This trend seems to me to be growing. As does the trend of unemployed growers.

The smart bet is to get in on the bottom of a growing cannabis market. Wish I could talk my sweet wife into moving more of the retirement into the legal cannabis market.

Blah, there will always be a demand in any medical state for high quality organic flowers that are not sprayed and flushed from elite clones/seeds, high end solvent extracts from proper flowers, high end fullmelt, medibles, glass blowing, titanium products.. The list goes on find your niche and run with it, when I was in cali last, the clubs in sac and further north all had crap extracts, no melt ice water hash, shitty medibles and unflushed hydro indoor. I swear most shops north of the bay almost always have garbage, wouldn't touch have the stuff with a ten foot pool. With all these clubs having garbage it should make it even easier to get donations for top quality everything.

As said above so many growers think their eagle20 sprayed in flower, unflushed and botrytis infected outdoor should be worth more than what it is. Some of the morals of California growers from what I've seen, is scary, especially the outdoor growers. Terrible drying conditions, sprayed with all types of shit threw flower, unflushed, mold etc..

how you perceive and adapt is relative to your motivation

if you want to continue to make an outrageous profit margin while minimizing efforts change to a different illegal activity with a greater risk to reward

if you want to make a living by continuing to work with the plant simply scale your grow to aaccount for the loss in margin

You get it man. People have no idea what's happening. The overall state of the plant is in a bad way. It's only getting worse. I do need a vacation very badly. Maybe in the next year. Tahoe. I hear there's some cute girls around there.

@ Snype: this is my plan of action. A new client base. I wish I got what you get. I'd still be able to make a living off working on the plant 8 hours a day.

@ Midwest: that's what I'm saying. Walk into any shop and all the product is so low quality it's unreal. Some of the replies here prove that people are lost on what true quality even is. One day grade B will be grade A. Slippery slopes...anyways, I have no idea what's going on in Cali as we have our own problems here. It appears that the low moral low standard outdoor grower you refer to is making his/her way out here.

@ everyone else: whatever! I still love you but whateva! :)

Fuck it, I'm just gonna go on and watch some Maury Povich now.

I miss the overgrow days. Midwest you can get high prices and quality is always guarded. Lot's of snitches and narcs. Not the same med scene as cali. Lost friends cause of snitches in the circles. Everyone says they will never snitch, but they will.

It is funny but I haven't seen 4k a lb wholesale here in MB ever....Hard to believe it was once worth that down south.

You think its bad there, try competing again the Green Tsunami from BC....

Come on down to Texas brother. You can get 4K here. Don't get caught though. Mr. Deputy Dickhead doesn't play nice down here.

I grew for a while here, but the risk reward didn't compute for my situtation.

The tide is changing but not quite yet.

I don't know anything about Texas. Obviously I wish I did. I'm a good old boy so I often fly under the radar down south. Sigh...and I really want to bag a few Texas girls too. Don't make this too painful man.

Just my humble opinion based on more than a decade of experience, but if you have an actual education (most full time growers don't) then you should be trying to base your primary income on that and just supplement the income with the grow. In todays world with numerous automation options you don't have to spend 8 hours a day in a garden unless you are running a warehouse. Plus you might want a legitimate reason to explain where the cash came from.

I've already begun looking for a new lab. I used to work in one up until last June but the research and opportunity to learn new techniques dried up simultaneously. My boss was difficult too so I've been reluctant to rejoin science. At the very least, I have options. I guess others aren't so lucky. I should be more thoughtful to them. :(

I am master mechanic with smog certs too , I also can weld, I also went to school for horticulture at cuyamaca colledge and got several certs there too.i am also ex steel worker, and I can list quite a few more certs too. I actually find growers I know to be quite accomplished folks with a vast education a lot in horticulture.
