Making all precautions

Hello people of Icmag! I am starting my first ever (also my last) grow ever this upcoming 2014 summer. I've been researching for two years before actually considering cultivating the most magnificent plant. I believe that if your going to grow this beauty out then you better do it right! Through much consideration, I decided to go with the modified version of Subcools Supersoil. I believe the person who posted the modified version is a man named Sidewing. I'm sure if your curious it'd be only a search away but if you cannot find it I will supply a URL. Anyways back to the main objective for this thread. This grow will be of course under the sun which nature intended it. I was wondering what precautions you guys add to your soil as far as keeping away unwanted things I.e bugs, PM, etc. I've read many good things about insect frass if you guys know what that is. Correct me if I'm wrong but its corpses of dead insects. I don't mind the cost of PROVEN things if they are high. I simply want to grow the best cannabis I possibly can and I definitely couldn't do it without the knowledge Ive obtained from sites such as this.

Anyways, let me know what you guys add to your soil or know of great things to add to your soil as precautions. :tiphat:

I've had tremendous success with Mosquito Dunks (which are Bacillus thuringiensis a.k.a. gnatrol and many other brands). If you're in the states, I'm positive you could find them at almost any Home Depot.

Establishing and maintaining the microherd has done the most for me. Learn to love AACT (also know as ACT [activated compost tea]) applications because you have to try really hard to overdo those. Plants can't get enough of it, in my experience so far.

Funny I was just doing so much research on AACT! I literally just finished CT's whole thread on it! What kind of teas do YOU make?

Neem and Karanja meal are great additions to the soil. They should deter alot of pests.
Ingredients with chitin (crab meal, shrimp meal, frass) are supposed to promote certain bacteria that suppress plant pests.

Outside pest control is about making your plants the least tasty option around - weekly foliar sprays with stinky stuff works wonders.

aint neem and karanja basically the same? well that's what I was told. I have never used insect frass and its not easy to get either. I do use neem,DE an homemade repellant sprays tho along with commercially available stuff

I thought that commercially available Insect Frass is insect shit collected from bait/turtle food production. Probably has dead insect matter in it too. Stimulates plant immune response. -granger
