That's beautiful man, def an heirloom Mater for sure, I am going to be using some cheap a+b nutes, the hydro store brand and I am going to supplement with some micro nutes along the way and when summer roles around I may try what you did with the bio balls and some earth juice.

I love Bacon Mater samiches so much it will keep me motivated.

Yep, it's that easy.
That water pump was not even needed.

New ones just get an air stone and neglect.
80 degree water, no rot.
Lazy man's bounty. :)

Last of the cherry toms;

DWC Maters

DWC Maters

Left is Bush beef steak, on the right Cherrie Toms.

Never even thought about taken some pics, I will definitely show you guys what I am doing, prolly take some more pics tomorrow of the buckets etc. I can't wait till I have a plant to start.

The seedlings should be up this week.

Going to grow then under a 950watt LED fixture.

It will come to fruition.

I have never found tomatoes grown like that to be good. They have little to no flavor, due to the lack of nutrients found only in soil that effect flavor.

What specific magic nutrients are those?

The reason organic tomatoes taste better has more to do with sugar levels and nutrient ratios than nutrient source.

You can do high brix tomatoes in hydro. They will taste excellent.

I thought long and hard about doing this outdoors this summer but decided against it because of the temperature issues I saw as a potential problem. But I guess if you make your reservoir big enough they could be mitigated a lot with waters natural specific heat capacity as well as burying the lines and such.

Had some logistical issues that would have made it challenging and more work than I wanted to invest in when I really want to learn how to dial in my organics.

Got my refractometer recently to measure sugar/nutrient levels. :)

I should really get one of those as well.

Outdoor hydro would pose an issue but I am going to clone the indoor ones and try them outside in the spring.

Never get hotter than 90 here but the DWC tubs can hit 95.
That tells me that heat alone does not cause root rot.
Might Accellerate it, once infected, but does not seem to have a threshold that starts it.
Come summer, I'll probably wrap the tubs in reflectix just because.
But in winter, the sun keep my water at ~85 and that makes 'em grow fast.

Just topped off the tanks.
They are growing furiously.
Got some pics if you wannem.

Out of room on the lanaii, so I hung a shelf off the railing for these
Balcony babes.
When the foilage covers the redneck rigging, and the red and yellow fruits ripen, it makes an appetizing view from my dining room.

He man I just found these in my veggie seed collection.

Cosmonaut Volkov Tomato - This Ukrainian tomato wins taste test after taste test. Perfect blend of sweet and tart, with a rich complexity. Fruits can range from 8-12 oz and are slightly flattened with a healthy red color and moderately green shoulders. Prone to cracking in wet conditions, but not nearly as much as Brandywine. Produces high yields even in cool conditions. Semi-determinate

"Indigo Rose" tomato steps out this year as the first "really" purple variety to come from a program at Oregon State University that is seeking to breed tomatoes with high levels of antioxidants.
The new variety is a novelty type intended for home gardens and the fresh market, and it is now available in seed catalogs

I shall be running these as well.

Just got a tent for the project 4 x 4 x 8 foot,

Question did you have any issues with cracking in deep water culture?

Peace

^^^^I lowered my nitrogen levels a bit an foliar spray of calcium. end rot= uneven watering, high nitrogen and calcium imbalance mainly. watering aint issue with hydro dwc. fix other 2. peeps tend to use a bit too much n and not enough calcium. my friends plants were always taller and greener than mine , but I yielded more and better maters than him without issues. he wouldn't listen to me even tho I was a horticulture student with practical experience. cal mag didn't help any till I dropped the n as I think cal mag was like 2-0-0 and added more nitrogen. I would def try lower n and add calcium somehow whatever ya choose
