Sleepless night after starting smoke break...

Hey guys, it's ole BP back in the Dr.'s office. Hehe. I've been noticing a pattern with myself and I'd like some thoughts/input if you have any to spare.

Every once in a while I take a break from smoking, typically due to shotty hookups. I usually smoke about a half gram a day, which I don't think is really all that much. It's usually distributed over 3 gravity bong hits...one morning, one afternoon, one evening. When I take this break though, I always, always, always have a sleepless night. The weirdest damn thing about it, though, is that it's always after my second day of not toking. No matter what, it seems, I just can't sleep.

I do suffer from anxiety...both that and depression run strong in my family. When I run out and can't find any pot, I usually get anxious and put out. I think more so because it fucks up my daily routine.

The good news is that with this 2 day break so far, I haven't really given a shit about smoking weed nor have I felt any anxiety. Actually, it's been kind of nice. I haven't felt that detached from pot in a while. However, I just laid up in my damn bed unable to fall asleep for 3 hours. I thought I was in the clear this time.

I can't figure if this is a chemical or mental issue.

It's just bloody weird. Any thoughts?

i think this is because you fit it in your routine so its a habit to you now you cant sleep because you worry about it so much

The routine part of it is definitely a factor. Usually, I think that's the cause of most of my stress with this.

It's just this sleep thing that pisses me off. Finally, I have a break where I don't feel that usual dysphoric feeling and have had good, relatively stress-free days. I was even falling asleep this evening though and it's like my brain just wouldn't click over to sleep.

Is it really unhealthy to miss a night's sleep here and there? I am talking like monthly to bi-monthly at best and followed by a solid night's sleep. The one good thing is that this shit doesn't usually carry over to the next night. I'll also be skipping the beer and taking a benadryl before bed if this keeps up after this next night's sleep attempt.

Tonight, I drank two beers about two hours before bed, so I felt like I had to piss. Also, I usually get up at 430am, which is unnatural and I had a solid nap this morning as it's one of my "late" days...I guess I was askin for it. It just sucks.

I cannot sleep without aids in few nights after smoke is out. Perhaps it is the price have to pay.
My family line also have issues with mental health problems, which are often disguised under alcoholism. Well, I got sick from booze everytime I used it, so I then chose MJ.

Yeah, and for all the good that comes from the MJ, I'll take it; even if it kinda sucks. Especially since I dont have the heebie jeebie bored and hopeless syndrome this go around.

And for the record; fuck booze. I like a fat guiness or a tasty ale here and there, but that shit isn't good for a buzz imo as I get sick and headaches too easy. Some people though can drink that shit like crazy with no ill physical effects it seems. Not me.

I am also taking a break for a bit, but I get the opposite reaction: I am extremely fatigued and falling asleep all the time, with vivid dreams. This last 2-3 weeks for me, if I go that long, which is doubtful. Get some melatonin. It helps establish normal sleep patterns.

Opt, I would do that-but I always gotta get up to piss! Also, beer makes me feel so damn warm. Can't go wrong with the old school tho. hehe. =)

Retro, thanks for the input. I just heard something about melatonin the other day, I'll have to give that a try as I am gonna be within walking distance of a GNC this morning. Have you used it before?

Also, I'd really like for these crazy vivid dreams to kick in...any time now!

This happens to me always, fwiw... I don't think routine has anything to do with it, weed is an excellent sleep aid, and I have problems sleeping without some sort of aid. Well, not always, but often...

I tried melatonin once couple of weeks. Could have eaten calcium pills or something.

Yes, I use it. It really works. It's a natural substance with no side effects or hangover.

Funny you mention vivid dreams, I always have crazy vivid dreams when I'm on a t-break (Im on a break right now, and I can still remember my dream from last night its crazy)

I also have trouble sleeping within the first couple days of not smoking, usually a day or two after I start my break. Most likely it's because a good amount of the THC is out of my system (I'm a pretty small guy). I have been using cannabis to help with my sleep for as long as I can remember, so I dunno if the chicken or the egg came first here.

As retro said, melatonin works awesome. Take one or two tablets and within 30-45 minutes you'll sleep like a baby. Take regularly to establish a sleep pattern. I have no sleep pattern so couple that with no buds and you have one insomniac chronjohn =(

Good lucky buddy take care

Bumping the thread to see if there are any other melatonin heads out there. I have severe insomnia when I take a cannabis break. (Like the post above, literally lay awake all night on the first night of abstinance.) I recently tried 10mg melatonin with vitamin B5 and another brand 10mg with L-theanine.

I'm sleeping but I'm not sure about the next day. No groggy hangover like the OTC sleeping pills but I seem accident prone. Probably just my nerves adjusting after being sedated all day every day for two or three months.

Mj raises the pineal glands natural secretions of melatonin, several hundred %. Try melatonin supplements, natural herbs. Alcohol wouldn't be good if your not used too drinking.

I've had problems with insomnia my whole life. Weed is the only thing that works for me reliably, and I've tried everything. The pharmaceutical solutions work for a little while, but they stop working and have terrible side effects.

When you depend on weed for sleep, it's natural to experience some rebound insomnia when you quit. It's the only physical withdrawal symptom I've ever gotten from it. A few days where I sleep a little less than I would have otherwise. It's nothing compared to withdrawal from xanax or lunesta.

Melatonin definitely helps. Benadryl can help too if you're not used to it. Magnesium, theanine, and taurine can help too in terms of natural supplements.

Alcohol helps in getting to sleep, but it makes me wake up earlier. It sucks going to sleep at midnight and waking up at 3. I still love beer sometimes, but I wouldn't rely on it for sleep.
