Whew! I just got up-to-date on the entire R.U.S.T. after many days of reading. Thanks Motaco for starting it- I remember some of it from the OG days (Dalat! talks about a throwback!)

I have a question for the oldschool and experienced sativa growers here like Charlie Garcia, Raco, Dubi, Bushweed and the rest of you talented growers who are too plentiful to name:

If you could only take 5 presently available sativa strains with you to an island, based solely on enjoyable smoke and having a well rounded genepool of desirable characteristics to work (like euphoria, psychoactivity, power, duration etc.) what would you take?

If it was your job to save sativa from the apocalypse I'd love to hear what strains you'd take and why.

Blessings-
one

Probably my favorite was Cambodian Red I got from Dennis Peron in about 1976. It tasted like the best insence perfume, and I was seeing colors. Everything took on a pink hue. Ive looked for seed for years to no avail.

Last but not least frm my garden, Angolese X Meao Thai female #3, the later flowering red stem pheno... one of the last survivors from the season so far.

Frosty and pungent, gotta love those burgundy petioles, I wish I could know where they come from!

In autumn of 1976, my boss at the time, who did not smoke weed, offered to take me to a store in San Francisco that sold all kinds of the best weed available. I said lets go!
He was gay, and we picked up a transvestite friend of his in SF who knew Dennis Perron. The store was up in the top of an old victorian house on Polk street.

We went up to the front door, and the friend held some paper up to the two way mirror. The guard opened the door and talked to us a second. We went upstairs and met Dennis P. He talked to us for awhile. Remember, it was very illegal back then. I heard he was paying the police off back then, to keep the place open.

Dennis was real cool! He took me into a big room at the top of the three story Victorian. There were tapestries on all walls, and bean bag chairs, and giant cushions all around. Along 2 walls were long tables with enormous woven baskets overfilled with the goldest Colombian Gold, and gooeyist Colombian Red. They had baskets overflowing with fat Bhudda sticks. Baskets of sweet aromatic Cambodian Red. All types of imported hash to select from.

I bought some of everything!
My friends at home couldnt believe it, when I whipped out My stash!

PRICES in JAMAICA vary all over the island but 95% of the tourists going to jamaica are going to Negril or Kingston. Roadside vendors with coconuts and fruit as well as small businesses often sell about a gram for a dollar, with a paper. Street dealers with ounces(guess-timated weight and not including stalks) usually sell them for 30-50 dollars or 200-350 USD for a whole lb. While it is true that herb actually sells for as little as 80usd per pound even for quality weed it is not right to pay that for it. Remember that this is not "the time machine" and Jamaicans are not morlocks there to serve you. They are a slave to a crippled economy and work their asses off to be able to feed their family. They risk their freedom selling weed and you should really think about which one of you truly knows the value of a hard days work before you haggle down an honest man to piles of weed for chump change. I don't know who said it but I'll never forget the words: "The extreme uncertainties of subsisting without working made excesses necessary and brakes definitive. Suicide took many, alcohol and the devil took care of the rest." What this means is if you have the money to go blunting, beer bonging, and tom catting around Jamaican resorts than you've got the kind of money to give some of the most hardworking people you'll ever meet a fair price for his product. It boils my blood when I hear people say they haggled down some dealer to next to nothing like screwing poor people out of money is something you should be impressed with.

^well said. someone should tell that to dispensaries...

OldProLg,

Last I checked, 10 out of 10 found your post/pictures "helpful". It was helpful to my hopeful of having excellent sativa floating around in our future.

Yours looks like very nice sativa also Randy!

Thank Shiva for this thread, and all those who persevere,

Ha! I often carry on conversations in those reputations. No wonder sometimes I'm ignored. Probably other reasons also...

Now, how about smoke reports from you all.

If I did not already say it. NICE PLANT Oldpro! What is in your cross? She is very tight and full of fat buds, bet she is some great smoke. Tell us more.
I'm like TB and comment in the manna box a lot .
I Love all the sativa pics people post, love knowing that these beauties are still being appreciated and circulated among those who appreciate being HIGH more often then Stoned.
Thank you all for all the positive comments and blessings. I will pass them on to the grower.
The pics I just posted are of a very Thai leaning AngolaThai that was grown beautifully and finished perfectly by my Baby Mamma. She has the skills for sure as I am sailing through the frozen sky above Humboldt on a magic carpet ride as I type this out after only a couple of hits. It has cured for only a week or so in a turkey bag but it is so smooth, taste is of sweet flowers with crushed herb flavors of Thai and just enough woodiness and incense from the Angola, just what you want a joint to burn and taste like. Burns like a ciggy, stays lit and finishes with no tar at the end of the roach, like you want every joint to do.
She grew it in a 7 gallon smartpot in used bagged soil/garden soil with a little compost and mulched with alfalfa and rice straw, fed only water. :tiphat:

sounds awesome ! grew some out indoors and found a Angola leaning pheno that was compact and finished in 8-9 weeks. smelled/tasted of mandarin orange and wood with a nice up high. I wanted to cross her with some outdoor stock for a faster finish, so I selected a Timewarp Cambodian x BC Coastal Haze male to knock up a whole plant of Angola x Meao :) seeds took nicely and I have a large envelope full, ( several thousand or so )so I can do a large selection one day...
Also found a nice Vietnam Black x Meao 12 weeker ( ACE's first release ), long colas, reddish brown trichs and full on kitchen spice rack smell/taste, very herbal. this one I crossed to a straight up Timewarp Cambodian ( no Haze )

Thanks for the smoke report Randy. I like them even if they are short. They are poetic in a way that makes me understand what you mean. Congrats.

OldProLg - I'm sure there are quite a few of us that would like to know more about those beautiful plants.

Marijuanamat - Nice work on that one. I am hoping to get a greenhouse someday, and then I can try some more exotic strains without lights and in more natural soils.

Randy- those look killer. I'm drooling.

Dr. Purpur- I wish I had a time machine to go back to San Fran- that place would have been awesome to see. And the Cambodian Red you describe sounded amazing. You have never managed to find it again?
