What do you recommend for 80x80x160

Hey there guys, i got a homebox 80x80x160 tent, and i need to set up the light and ventilation. at first i thought of installing an open reflector with 400w HPS and a 250 centrifugal fan with a 240 carbon filter. but than a friend told me that maybe it's best if i put a cooltube, so i can put the light closer to the plants without burning them. it sounds great but the only problem is that he says a 250 centrifugal fan won't be good enough for holding a cooltube + carbon filter, so he says that i might need a 355 centrifugal fan with a 325 carbon filter.

So what do you think? will a 250 centrifugal fan is enough to deal with a cooltube 400w + carbon filter in a 80x80x160 tent, or do i need to upgrade the fan and carbon filter so that the cooltube 400w setup will be more efficient and cool ?

I don't know anything about using cooltubes but that fan/filter combo sounds like overkill to me.

I don't know about tents either but this time of year you might be better off having the heat from an open reflector than venting it elsewhere.

Hi Dale,
You can easily calculate your needs, there are numerous posts/ guidelines here on IC to do it, just search for ventilation.
You want your growspace volume air to be completely exchanged every 2-3 minutes I think. At least that's what I run.
Filter and cooltube will eat up app. 20% of you fan's capacity.
That should lead to all numbers needed.
Choose your filter capacity slightly higher than you fan capacity, this way you're on the safe side in terms of odor control.
I have tried both, and for a tent that size I would not use a ct... a good reflector like an aaw with a spreader will distribute light (& heat!!!) of a 250w or 400w so well, there will be no need for a ct ( which will eat up app.10% of your light output through its glass btw). You can grow your plants very close to the bulb this way.
And just think of adjusting the height of the ct, that will have ducts on both ends...need to think about that stuff too... it has to be long enough and it's going to take away a lot of space in your already not gigantic tent.
Go for a good reflector and you'r set in my opinion.

all the best and stay safe

Cool tubes are shite, the light spread on them is terrible. You should be fine with a 5inch fan with a 400w, and plenty topping of plants.

it depends where your tent is gonna be situated is it in a warm bedroom or in a cold cellar for example...... the temp of room it is in will have a big effect on a tent of that size. JGP suggestion is preety good but in my experience with small tent it is really guessing game it might run to hot you might be only able to get 250w in there.... i would rather run less light and have better temps that more light with hot temps

rather then using a cool tube maybe you might consider a vented hood?. similar to a cooltube only the refletor is way better but you may be limit for space vented hoods are bulky.

with your limit space imo 400 watt light would be max light you can use, using a 400 watt in a small tent like that your going to need a good ventialtion system to keep the temps down. id advice you to read up on LST, super cropping, topping, all these things will help reduce the height of your plants.
