Will plants flower in an 18/6 cycle?

So I have some Grape 13 clones, non- auto, they have been in veg for 15 days under a 18/6 cycle. I have never grown this before so I am not familiar with the stain. It is supposed to be a 50/50. The nutrients are at 1300 and 62 degrees F. I'm using a 1000 watt MH. This is my norm. I look at my plants today and they have pistils on them. Every single one of them. This has never happened to me before. Why would this happen?

I've seen it happen with rootbound plants. 18/6 could trigger some plants I'm guessing. If you had various strains outside it would be very easy to tell that some are triggered much earlier than others. I'd repot if root bound, if not (and I didn't want flowers yet) I'd set the timer to something like 20/4, 19/5 or just do the 24/0.

good luck

Are they actually forming buds or are you talking about the pre-flowers? All of my plants have pistils on them before they go into flower..

I've never grown autos, but the only time I've ever seen a plant flower under 18/6 is because it was severely root-bound.

Many strains of canna can show there sex and some very early, if you are satisfied that theres no light leakage, or other forms of stress, then consider them a pre flowers.

But be warned unless you are close to the grower I always advise against using clones, as you don't know what you get until it's too late, even buying other growers problems.....stick to seeds

Thanks for the quick replies! I should have stated these are in an aeromister. They came from a top breeder in Colorado.

Preflowers. Do yourself a favor and go 12 on, 5 off, 2 on, 5 off. Plants like it and it saves energy. Only nerds do 18/6 nowadays. Be a cool kid and promote a better light schedule.

They look like normal pre-flowers to me. It looks good to go. They look like good, normal, mature female clones :plant grow:

yeah, keep things simple

it may work but good luck on keeping it straight. Don't fix it if it's not broken is a tried and true method.

What? You lost me there. What exactly would you have trouble keeping straight? Set the timer and go. Oh wait, are you under the impression that vegging plants require total darkness? If so, well they don't. My way is simpler.

Nacho that's funny! I'm not new to growing but I am by no means a master. I usually run 24/7 for 30ish days for veg, then I take enough clones and veg for 15 to get a good rootball and put them under HPS on 12/12. This time I was just changing things up. I should have known better! I am only using clones until I am at a stable location. With the GFs job I haven't known where we are going to be each year.

I am aware of the 12 & 1 for both veg and flower, I just haven't ever seen any real practice of either. Nacho do you use it for both. I know flower is totally dif from veg. How long have you been running it and what if any growth differences are there? I am interested.

I do something similar for my perpetual, but mine are underneath red metal halides for 12/12. I've heard good things about 12/12 for weeks 1-3, 11/13 for weeks 3-5, 10/14 weeks 6-9. I haven't tried it yet though.

There's a thread about the 12/1 veg cycle in the advanced cultivation sub forum. Be sure to check that out because I'm not the only one who likes to save money and have healthier plants just by setting a timer which we all have many of.

Hmmm. Shouldnt standard quarantine/treatment practices take care of that? It doesnt take much to treat and repot plants before you bring em in or the follow up of multiple other treatments immediately thereafter.

IMO, plants that don't do that preflower thing in 18 will take way too long to flower to be productive.

I grew Sweet Tooth #3 from Spice of Life. The 2 females I kept went into full blown flowering under 18/6. It was very freaky. Later I found out they wiil go into full flowering
if the root space becomes restricted.

^^^ yeah, the sweet pink grapefruit side of sweet tooth is notorious for that very thing.

which I'm glad you mentioned as I have some ST crossed to CXhimera's BBxHighlandMex... One of them showed sex early in veg.... I need to keep my eyes on that girl :yeahthats
