5x5 Grow room ?

Hey guys
What are your opinions on a 2k watt sealed 5X5 room? Am I getting greedy here or do you think I would benefit from a SOG grow with my current set up.
Current Set Up:
5X5 well insulated sealed grow room.
2 600W air cooled lights [I would like to upgrade to two 1000Watters]
1 A/C Unit
C02 Fed plants
Complete environmental sealed room
Heres some pics of my room and the current grow I have going.

If your grow can handle the heat and you have enough vertical height to move your lights up in case the intensity of 80 w/sqft is a bit too harsh, why not?

If youre so inclined, you can get dimmable ballasts in case of unforeseen problems.

Appreciate the positive vibes wildgrow. I never thought about the dimmable Ballasts! smart thinking. How much more in yield roughly might I expect from 2 1000Watts. compared to the two current 600Watters? Im wondering if the extra yield would be enough to account for the extra money each month for the electric.

That's something I cant tell you, no experience there. When I upped wattage, I was also moving my grow.

On second thought 80 w/sqft is a lot - you probably don't want to (and shouldn't) do that. (Sorry I wasn't thinking.) If you could toss a 400 w in between the 600s you'd have a golden 62 w/sqft. It might be tight but you can overlap the reflector wings. You can even run a mh in the 400.

I like WG's idea of adding a 400. Cheaper, cheaper to operate. less heat, near optimal watts per sq. ft. Good luck. -granger

i'd suggest just 1kw in a 5x5 space. 2x600s+ a 400w will work too but you miss out on the intense light penitration of the 1000w which helps more in growing thick worthwhile nugs on the entire plant than increasing the quantity of lower wattage lights.

I run a 1kw in a 5x5 tent and it works wonderfully. there is plenty of light thrown out by a 1kw to cover and produce top quality from a 5x5 space. I feel adding another 1kw to that space is overkill, you'd be better off going 5x10 space with 2kw. 5x10 with 2kw is essentially how my setup is and i yeild about 3 lbs per 2kw harvest.

Wildgrow, Why the sudden change of heart? 80W/sq.ft seems good considering everything else in the room is to par and c02 is being used. only problem I can forsee might be light bleached plants but I do have plenty of height to move the light up. I liked your idea concerning the dimmable ballasts.
Im not really worried about the cost of the equipment. Especially if my return investment is better than it is now.
CannaBean, Hey whats up man! Im diggin your grows.[Where did you purchase your small containers your using in your perpetual?] I want to set up a similar perpetual sog grow. If I had the space I would most definitely go for the 5X10 idea only problem is my washer and dryer hook up are right outside the room and theres no way to relocate that stuff at the moment. The reason I went with the 2 600Watters was they run more efficiently watt per lumen output. However I am curious to see how much of a difference in weight Id be producing with 2k. How much weight are you pulling from your 1000W 5X5 Canna?

Its really an excess of light. I was puffing all day yesterday :D The more you raise a light the fewer number of lumens that reach the plant. So if you double your wattage, but have to keep your lights a couple of feet or more above your plants then you really aren't getting the full benefit of 2000 w. Which in turn means that youre using the power for 2000 w but only reaping the benefit of 1600 or so watts.

EDIT: If youre gonna go for it, get the dimmable. It would suck to have to do a change over twice. There are ballasts that allow dimming to 75% output. That would give you 1500w or 60 w/sqft.

despite the lower efficiency of the 1kw lights, they are worth it with the higher light penetration of 1kw bulbs that you don't get with 1000w equivalent in other bulbs, say a 400+600w. maybe i'm full of crap since i've had this belief for years and no sources handy to back it up but i think when i researched it, that's what i found.

if thats not bs then i suggest going with a 1kw and compare it to your 1200w yeild and quality. wildgrow makes a great point, go dimmable 1kw and if you don't like the 1kw alone, you can use it as 600w.
my 5x5 SOG (56 plants) under a 1kw yeilds average 750-800. my highest yeild being just over 900g and I've only broken 900 once. all respect due to the strain though, i neglect them much more than i should.

depends on the strain, blue dream haze 12/12 from clone or she grows through the roof. gdp can take 2wk of veg and still be containable at 4 plants per sq ft

Canna: Im looking at going with 2 1000Watts in my 5X5 room not 1. I believe with c02 and my ac I can pull it off. I just think the light placement/Lumen per. square foot of only 1 lamp can definitely be beat by 2.. All be making a decision once I weigh out the bushes I grew this go around. I also have a blueberry type strain that shot to the roof with massive buds, however tricome count on the blue mist is not very high she'll be phased out.
Where did you pick up your SOG room plant containers?

urbangroop: I use 6x6x8" square pots but they are bigger than necessary for a sog with plants of my size. adding perlite to my coco may help with this issue.

for plants that start 12/12 from clone and reach an ideal height of 25", 5x5x7" pots are plenty tall.

Appreciate the advice Clean. However I would nt be here where I am today if I had listened to what everybodys opinions were. This has been a good and a bad thing but also a learning thing. All be sure to purchase the dimable ballast as well as keep the old ones incase of any unforeseen problems.. :]
