Looking for advice on new Coco DTW

I've been growing in soil for a year now, and this subforum really makes me go for coco. I'm tired of carrying bags of soil into my flat, and I'm envious of the growth rates that are seen around here.
I'm also looking forward to upgrading to 1200 W (up from 600) and moving from a Homebox XL in an (insulated) Attic to a stealth cabinet in my study room. I really like the cabinets by G-Tools from NL, but they are rather expensive and I don't like the equipment they put in there at all... so it will be a DIY-Cabinet very similar to what G-Tools produces.

The dimensions of the cabinet would be 234 cm (width) x 78 cm (depth) x 213 cm (height), with a 800 m³/h fan hooked up to a thermostat/transformer, running at full speed >26 °C, 1200 W of HPI-Power from Digital Ballasts.

This gives me a decent 65 W /sq. ft., but I'm really uncertain how much I can expect from this system. I'm not sure if it would be better to put 24 x 7 liter (2 gal) individual pots in there or go for 8 Libra Trays with CoGr-Boards.

And most important... are 1 g/W (or more) achievable in a cabinet like this? And I don't mean "achievable with 50 runs under your belt with the same cut", I mean really achievable - with a decent motherplant (check, found a keeper of NL#5 x Critical+), good ventilation, a lot of light and Coco DTW.

You can absolutely strike 1 gpw in a situation like that, but it will be a matter of hitting it right. Coco isn't like soil, and it isn't like pure hydro. It's somewhere between the two and how you treat it will determine the performance. Most people find a learning curve with coco, and you should expect to as well, getting more weight in the 3rd and 4th harvests than in the 1st and 2nd.

If you need 1200g though, like, that's an important number and you have to get that much at least, then step it up into 1000w bulbs.

You throw some co2 in that room with some small pots fed multiple times a day you can do it fairly easy.

No, it's not an important number to me. Electricity is just my main limiting factor, even more so than space. The combination of those two makes growing decent amounts of bud rather challenging. :)

I know I have to downsize the pots compared to soil - how do 24 pots with 2 gal each sound? Another one of my goals is to keep veg time to a minimum.

Thanks to both of you, comments from more experienced growers really help a ton.

I don't think Lu even need to go to 2 gallon. I've grown huge plants for months in 1 gallon bag.

I use gallon pots as well ,genetics are important too and it looks like you have a good keeper.. Grow on now.:)Bud..

hahaha a dehydrated coco brick compares nothing to a bag of soil! Go with coco Than MAKE A CHANGE TO HYDRO WHEN YOU GET BORED.
Check out my room a 5X5 Sealed with c02 A/C and environmental controller.

I run 2 600s because I get more coverage with the 2 light compared to one. But probably not as much light penetration which is why all be upgrading to 2 1000Watters.
Im not sure about the size of your room as Im way to lazy to convert your cm to ft. but if your room is smalled than mine, you have a decision to make. 1. more light coverage with 2 600's or better light penetration through the canopy. If you plan on a sog type grow go for 2 6's. If your growing bushes in their [longer veg time] to me it would be smarter to run a 1000W.

Can you keep your room temps 68F all year without paying a fortune? Go DWC. Rooms going to be 70-75F mainly? Go Drip through clay pebbles (they're re-usable, only have to haul them in once).
I can't keep my room cool enough for a DWC, and I understand that Coco is reusable after a good flush with Enzyms & Dripclean. I will get an RO nevertheless, tap water has a high EC here.

'been checking that out already, I'm mirin the boldness to go for 2k in 5x5 :-D

That would be width 7.68 ft x depth 2.56 ft x 6.89 ft heigth.

So, I'm going for 24 plants under 2x 600 in the canbinet; 1.x gal pots, DTW, heads formula plus dripclean... right after my next harvest. I've got 11 girls in my 4x4 Tent going right now, Harvest in 3-4 weeks... after that, nothings gonna stop me.

peace
