Nice job and good thinking on your design.

Off topic slightly and sorry if this question distracts from your thread - im thinking of using white tiles over cement board and grouting in a 5.5'x6'x10' flower room. Any one see problems with this?

Im thinking since ill have a sump I will be able to sterilize the room easily between grows.

I havent thought of a reason why a large shower isnt a good flower room approach other than expense.

hey mckush, no not off topic at all.
this crossed my mind after seeing a gro room finished out in tile but the extra cost and time were just way out of bounds for my situation

but, very easy to clean and sterilize as you said,
if your your building from the ground up, grade the floor and install a floor drain.
or the floor can be sloped in a retrofit situation.

of course something like this is pricey and a pretty permanent thing.
ideally would be to use a house that has one of the 200sq ft tiled master showers :)

I hear you about the extra time and your situation. Expense isn't as big a deal as it comes down to material choices really. Shit I'm doing it all so my labor doesn't factor in for expense. However, time is a precious, precious commodity.... tiling that shit does not get my juices flowing, I've done my own bathrooms before and cant say I'm a big fan of tile work. However, as a material, tiling is freaking tits for durability and maintenance. Just don't see a downside with it yet and I'm looking for one man!

This room needs to last until my elbows touch wood so I don't want to take any shortcuts (yet). I'm shooting for 1/1/14 completion but that will be a stretch at my pace. (How many more nights is the wife going to let me woodchuck it till 1 or 2a?) Anyway, I'm going to cut out the floor and frame in the hole that leaves today so I can finish my excavation and re-frame the space.

Got some nice new tools out of it tho, so I got that going for me :)

Hey Gnome, how is the room going?

I'm at it still, digging, digging... Close to 10'6" now at the top of my new joists which rest on concrete bases - will lose some height when I skin it with multiple layers of 3/4in ply, underlayment, and tiles etc... but shaping up to be a tad over 10' height. My arms are killing me bro, i'm too old for this shit. hehe Made it to 10' tho. effin a.

I dropped by your build McKush,
it looks like WORK lol.... :D
I *know* I'm too old to be doing what your doing anymore

things are good in my room,
other than a touch of VPD its humming.
plants are looking super nice and the growth is more than i expected w/Co2
I knew plants would grow good in there but its way better than I expected

i had to shut down my other gro sites and had a couple trays of keeper clones that have been in perlite/verm since august.i
I didn't think they would come back as productive plants so I put em in soil just to get em healthy enough to get cuts from em.
i also started around 50-60 plants from seed as a back up
plus i need more keepers and variety with the bigger room.

here's the plants from seed
picture.php

.

picture.php

and the clones i called *sticks*
were 18"tall with a few tufts of green on top and sides,
they just exploded when the room went online.
so now I'm overloaded with too many plants...
better than not enough... eh :smoke:
i'll get my cuts and a descent harvest from them.
I now have a secondary site to put these larger plants to put
into bloom in a few days

the *sticks* 3 weeks later

Its budleydoright that gets a thumbs up for the Co2 portion of the build.
i had the broad strokes of the system i wanted and budley helped me fill in the details

the only other part of the build i didn't detail here was sealing the door air tite.
i wrapped that up the 1st week of dec.

i used the section i cut out of the insulted walls as the door.
the inside facing side of the door was cut 7/8" smaller than the outer side.
like a bank vault door.

both the wall jambs, top-n-bottom were capped with aluminum coil
same with the door, this gave me a smooth surface to use some type of material.
the actual seal is pipe insulation, $2 for a 6ft piece.
i used the kind that splits open and sticks back together.
then i used velcro to make it stick to the jamb.
it took some experimenting to fin the right depth to where i could close the door and not rip it loose and it still made an air tite sealed

i used a *try* piece of metal and used differing depths,
i tried using it doubled over
picture.php

but finally settled on not doing that.
this is the final version where it wraps around the inside corner of the jamb
picture.php

strip of velcro at the right depth on the jambs to attach the pipe insulation so the door can close and not be overly tight
picture.php

stick the other piece of velcro to the pipe insul.
picture.php

what i like about this system, when the seals eventually wear out it will cost less than $6 for pipe insul.+ $15 for velcro to replace it and takes about 30 minutes

voila' lite proof and air tite for $21

Hey Gnomie - you ever check into a day/night temp/humidity/C02 Controller? Was wondering if something like the Sentinel CHHC-4 CO2 Environmental Temp Humidity Controller is a good idea or go a DIY route and use a logic controller like an arduino. I can DIY but prefer not to right now as my time is worth more than the shits & giggles factor of building your own.

money i saved on some of the *must have* gear in my room that fell into the DIY category, like the Co2 water gen and 6KW lite controller with sequential start up went into higher quality green air controllers

for Rh I got the RHC-R
RHC-1-hd-web-2008-1in.jpg

for the my sniffer I went with a SPC-1 Set Point Controller.
its xtremely sensitive compared to my Co2/temp/RH data logger
SPC-1-2008-hd-web_thumb.jpg

to be honest I've never really checked into the other brands but I'm sure they'll get the job done.
what i like about green air gear is quality and if you have a Q and call
you actually talk to the techs that build it
try that with other brands :smoke:

^^ Second that Gnomie. Your plants look very sturdy and robust. They look great.

I'll check out Green Air controllers. Just starting to look at the systems that will run continuously.

Got my pond liner down for a vapor barrier and 12 cement footer blocks laid out and in the process of being squared 'n leveled! f*n a - just about done digging! My hands are totally fucked for guitar right now which is the only downside to this project I might add.

hi ptfarmer
merryxmas too :santa1:
yeah man... velcro will do it for sure

a lot of thought went into the door,
even before I built the room...
all through the build it was constantly on my mind.
i thought of a std. entry door but it lacked the insulative value.
I'm running R-40 in the walls and ceiling
plus you can easily kick it in.
what i really wanted was a walkin cooler door,
insulated, sturdy as hell too!
but the $1200-$1800 price tags was too much at this stage.

when i decided not buying a door and using the cut out wall panel and making the door myself it was a pretty straight forward process.
it was the sealing part that took thought, and one of the most critical parts of the build,
with the numbers in the room and the stank that would be in there this had to be dead on perfect.

after trying a few other types of sealing materials and finally settled on the pipe insulation
1st I tried a hot glue gun to stick the it to the jamb,
it worked ... kinda
it was slow going and there was a fine line between melting the insulation with hot glue and the glue cooling too much to stick to the insulation... and it was messy as fook!
picture.php

I thought about the velcro I had laying around and
with a little trial-n-error...bam!
worked like a charm! :dance013:

along with the pipe insulation i also have a backup seal on the outer jamb
its the reg. door seal stuff 1-2" wide and 1/4" to 3/8" thick with sticky on 1 side
i use the wide stuff and cut it in 1/2

picture.php

I love velcro,
finding uses for it everywhere now
