Well said. I've got a couple other places here I like to check out, but I always look forward to seeing some type of "Crappy Day in Paradise".
I'm with you OH go out with a big bang. Speaking of GH the week of and the one after Halloween the Puma flew every day out country side only saw it refueling. But today was a official GH with two birds that I saw from home, my wife wanted me home, they have been here for 3hrs and now lunch I' waiting for ground crew got a pot of coffee ready.
For me I still want to do big plants but not so sativa you know 8ft and done end of Aug

Thought that was them this morning. They buzzed me a couple times and went on their way. Cut my last outside girl couple hours earlier.
They never came up my driveway this time. Pau with this side and was hitting out to Pepe'ekeo. Saw the puma and his 2 buddies working hard

There is an old Chinese curse; 'May you live in interesting times' And the next couple of years will be interesting....Time to Adapt or die....and that last option isn't really in play.

This season has two more good takes left in it. Another storm is moving in, tomorrow should be the perfect day before the storm. Next day will be kona winds. Rain should be here Friday. I'm cutting plants just before the drops fall.
You gotta stay off the water, and on the weather with a winter garden. Looking at what's out there, I see four that can be taken. The next wave's flower size is only quarter sized, so I think it doesn't yet have the weight to fall over....could be wrong....but I doubt it. At that stage another rain will help. Then a dry December, and we're shittin' in tall cotton.
In theory. Practice is another animal.
Another thing about a winter Garden....it has to be laid out perfectly to take advantage of the 11 hours of sun we get right today. Find the sun path and no shade for this batch. Here's a shot, sun just came over the hill behind us and the whole garden is happy....the first rays of dawn are caressing the leaves....It's all good. It's just another crappy day in paradise.....

I'm thankful for my friends. I know a great group of people. Some forever, some not....it just seems that way.
First of all....my wife. Why the hell she signed up for this ride I have no clue. I'm an asshole most of the day....but she gives as good as she gets, and drives me crazy....as I do her....but she puts up with this life.
Greyskull....he doesn't even read this board....he has a life.
The man is generous to a fault. Most of my genetics came from him. Simply put what he gets....I get. He is dragging me, kicking and screaming into the cutting edge of MJ technology....and I love it.
Weez....see ya soon. Weez was the first person to befriend me back when we started the show. His encouragement brings me back here to pour out my problems.
Casper.....I'd love to tell you all about Casper.....but.....Casper is a private person. I will say he is nowhere near as stupid as he'd like you to believe he is.....gottcha.
He has admitted in here somewhere we share the same view. Where else you gonna meet your cool neighbor? How fuckin' weird is that?

I'm looking forward to these "big changes" coming Oldhaole. You've still got a month to go in this journal and you already started a cliff hanger... this is too much anticipation, but I'll survive.
Thanks for the well wishes also. I hope I'm successful too. I just put 4 of the African landraces to flower this week; hopefully they finish in time.

This early in the season your plants will do fine. Plenty of time to plant seeds now and be done by April. The usual cusp is like Mid January....but you will be cutting it close then. I like to start the third season on Xmas day.
Lightwise we are still heading in the wrong direction. My Xmas will be December 21st this year.

Black Friday? Of course...I was with the horade. Got a 51 inch TV for twenty bucks. Had to beat up some old woman for it...but it's all mine. Want some more bullshit?
Outdoor Indicas Rock....Agreed. That seems to be my little nitche too. Here they go for a premium. People on the mainland have a hard time wrapping their brain around that. OD is worth more than Indoor? How can that be? Because Indoor looks better....but the high ain't there.
I like what I call the shovel in the back of the head. Three hits and I should be spinning. That's what I want from a plant. That's first. Then it has to check all the other boxes too. Yield, ease of rooting. rate of growth (jump), resistance to mold, rain, look, smell, all that other fun stuff....these girls have to live outside, take the rain, and our miserable humidity....and thrive.
Dude...I did the legwork, I found the key, The truck is right over there....now comes the easy part....put the key in the ignition, turn it over, and GO.
And don't get caught. Simple.
And remember I spent a lot of effort looking for what I think works best here. Out of almost 20 strains run in this log this year I kept two...and one of those is on the bubble. Using limited numbers to grow garbage....that put a dent in the early harvest last year.
Here's wifey's breeding project. These plants were put in from seed 87 days ago. They'll be taken today. First, the rejects;
And.....let's look here. Possible potential. Do they check all the boxes?....we will see. Will they get a hole in the garden?
Fuck no. She made these. She hits gold I am screwed. Never hear the end of it.
Green Harvest is here. They flew in right over town....all proud like about 3:30 PM Wensday. My phone blew up. Watched them land from my little perch up here with my own eyes. So we know what they will be doing next week. Kinda jives with what I've heard. This year they had funding problems. On the Fed side. So they decided to focus on the illegal shit and leave the legal alone.
Current system in Washington....betcha it happens again next year too....one can hope.
That storm I was worried about seems to have stalled out short of us. It seems to be pulling away....so there may be no rain. So far this year we have had five of these fronts come at us....every weekend. The first two hit, last three missed. The final wave of the season may just make it.
This wave is special....it's my Xmas present to myself. Like one of everything. It started as a test to see what rots and in what order, but if I pull it off....gravy time.

As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge of growing here. It really is priceless information. I've learned so much from your journals.
I was telling one of the patients I'm growing for that I thought GH was probably having funding problems this year because of how weak there searches have been the past few months. It's nice to have some confirmation on this. Hopefully that trend continues.
Too bad the black plant won't work out. I just think they're cool to look at, but they're not grown to be looked at anyway. And it's all looking good like usual Oldhaole, thanks for sharing.

December is almost halfway done. Green Harvest is done for the rest of the year, and it's time to get busy. By the way....I called that wrong in the last post. Fuckers never even bothered with us. I doubt we will see them for a few months....like March or April.
So.....
Three....maybe four months without adult supervision?....sounds like fun.....shall we play?
First off I need some more room. I can get that room one of two ways. Jump on a shovel.....which qualifies as work.
Or.....
I can top the hedge on the South side of the gulch. That'll do the trick. Then I can use existing dirt and planters too....no need dig.
That's done....actually I do it every year this time. When they fly again in a few months, the sun will have moved back to the North and that hedge will be out of play blocking sunlight. It'll also have grown back up a couple of feet by then too.
There is a pile of real good looking girls out there....almost ready....and I'm getting greedy. I'd like to let them go for another week, but we have the tail end of a front about to brush us again....one a week, two days of shit, five of nice....and I'm leaning towards letting them sit and chancing it.
But....
First drops hit I'm taking the variety pack. There's a good lb there....the last take of 2013....damned if I let the rain pound it.

That's easy. We need numbers. Throw the old schedule out. We have to have the numbers to not only replace what we take, as we take it, but to also expand.
Fortunately for me....I knew this was commin'. Instead of one wave, then a break, I literally blew my cloner up....then I borrowed my partners. The clone room is stuffed with Skunkdog and C-99 clones all up to the lights. Two weeks behind that is another variety wave. Then more Skunkdog and C-99 just done rooting. We also have wife's testers. Will they see the dirt?
Hell yes! One way or another, everything will see the dirt. We need numbers and we ain't to particular where they came from....throw everything against the wall....see what sticks.

Go nuts....It's pretty much the only free shot your gonna get. Keep this double pace up for two months, then ease back to the regular schedule. Done right, it should give you a nice jump into the new year.

Hey oldhaole and crew, just thought I would share some pictures of my winter time grow. The planters are 3' wide for size reference. I don't know how to make the pictures smaller, but I guess it doesn't matter, these girls aren't shy.
The first three here are Ace Seeds Malawi:
Some of them, like the closest one in that pic, look scrawny, but it's a profile view. I just have them trained like bowls to catch the sun. Case in point; here's the broadside view of the closest one in the first picture.
This Malawi is a week or two ahead of the other plants:

And here's a group shot in the other direction:
The farthest one in the left row is hidden behind some cane grass, but in order of closest to farthest are Kali Mist, Kali Mist, Kali MistxBubblegum, KeralaxSkunk #1, Kali Mist (hidden) and last on the right is a Bay 11.
