C-5 quadriplegic looking for answers

Hi all, I have been paralyzed(C-5 quadriplegic) since 1992. Didn't start smoking until 1999-2000. That was the first time I ever saw "medicinal grade" marijuana. I used recreationally until 2006. That is when I had an emergency kidney stone removed which led to an old Medicaid doctor cutting a 9 inch slit across my abdominal Wall to extract the stone which left me with severe fibro-myalgia in that area which causes a constant burning pain/sensation all the time, every day. Does anyone with experience have any knowledge to what strains would be best for fibromyalgia or, nerve damage? Some strains make the pain worse for the first 30 minutes after smoking, Vaporizing is sort of a different story It usually doesn't enhance the pain as bad. After that it seems to help throughout the day. Also are oils better, if so do you to need to be extra hydrated? Please share some strains and information, thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums!!!! :woohoo: :jump:

Basically you would want to ask for a "heavy indica" which is the type most likely to be
pain-killing and helps people sleep as well. I could list many strains in this category, but
you might want to check which strains are available in your local area and then report back here or check the Dr. Jay's Medical Forum for strain reports.

Heavy kush type strains, like Deep Chunk or Sour Bubble are two examples. But there
are many others. Also it depends on if you have a caregiver who could grow a specific
strain for you, or are you depending on a cannabis dispensary which has a rotating stock
of different strains.

Trying to help out!!!! :abduct:

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

Hi & welcome to IC Mag Jwish,
I also have a great interest in the pain relieving effects of the mj I smoke. My next purchase will be BOG's Livesaver or a variation of it sour etc. I have heard good things about it, so I'm going to try it. If you do get any really strong recommendations, please pass them on!
Stay safe, pain free & happy growing :tiphat:

Hello. I also have severe FM and struggle with nerve pain & muscle pain issues. The strains that have been helpful for me in the past are:

NYC Sour Diesel (RM, radiculopathy)
Medicine Man (neuropathic pain)
Medicine Woman (flip of mom & pop of MM above, specific for FM)
Blue Satellite (FM)
Jack Herer (FM)
Sweet Blu (FM)

For pain alone:

Purple Kush (9.6 out of 10 pain scale relief)
Purple Urkle x Purple Kush (10/10 pain relief)
Bubba Kush (10/10)
DG x Bubba Kush (10/10)
OB x Bubba Kush (10/10)
God's Gift (10/10) - this one has a very nice, uplifting high and you can still think

I would also recommend beginning supplementation with Magnesium Chloride (MgCl) and Vitamin B1 (thiamine), as FM always leads to malabsorption issues in the gut and this relates back to magnesium deficiency, which locks out the Vit B. Also, with the MgCl, use the powder you can get from healthfood stores or Amazon or Ebay... Put 30grams in a liter of cooled boiled water and take a shotglass full morning and night.

You will sleep deeper and the MgCl will take any calcium out of your kidneys, your joints, muscles, and nerves and redeposit it in the bones, where it belongs. It relieves a LOT of pain of FM. Plus, many other systems in the body need it to function correctly.

If you PM me, will give more info.

Welcome and best wishes.

Thanks a lot everyone. Especially flying goat, I'll try that. To answer the strain questions, in my area I only have access to cheese, NL#1, chemdawg, bubba Kush, blue dream, sinsi star, God bud, red diesel, Cotton candy, big bud and pineapple express. What about cooking oil or concentrates. Are those worth the work?

Until I run across something better?

Harlequin... hands down.

It's 8% CBD and only 6% THC which will allow you to use as much as you require...without it getting you stoned or high. It does have a background 'mellow' that gets deeper the more you use.

Pain at the surface of your belly? A well made Holy Anointing Oil will knock that pain right out for 6-8 hours. Made from harlequin? Can't wait for my current plants to be done. :)

All the other suggested strains will mess with your head in one way or the other. I've used sativa-dominant hybrid strains to try and keep my head clear and just dealt with the residual pain. Nothing sucks worse than to have the pain gone and all your motivation and ability to think gone with it.

Play around with what you have available... work on getting what you need when you can.

Keep it Clean! :D

In hopes of healing (as opposed to just masking the pain) will require a number of vitamins in combination - Astaxathin, Krill Oil, Vitamin D-3, Magnesium, Lypospheric Vitamin C, DHEA

Good luck brother

Good information there but uh... cannabis has significantly more benefits to it than 'just masking the pain.' Seriously. ;)

A good diet and high CBD cannabis does wonders. :huggg:

where are you at? if your in a med state its not hard to find high cbd clones. i have 3 that i keep as staples. harlequin, swiss tsunami and cannatonic. all three have high cbd. 7 % for the harlequin and about 17-20% on the other two. we give them away for free to any patient who needs them. take the cbd cannabis and use as a daily edible dose and use high thc for when pain is really acting up.
best,

Add Vitamin B-12 to all that, as well!

Rick Simpson Oil is EXCELLENT for pain and is condensed cannabis: It doesn't work like a pill, it does work for pain in the long term, just keep taking it and building up a tolerance. Which is why CBD high and THC low--strains are tolerated more easily.

rick simpson oil can be made from high cbd plants too. we carry three formulations of it. high thc/low cbd, high cbd/low thc and high thc/high cbd. it might take you a second to dial in the amounts per day but many many people find relief from oral cannabis for chronic pain and smoke for accute pain. i know its going to the extreme but ive seen many find relief using super concentrate. gets it done-quickly.

I've only found extreme relief from acute pain from ingested rso. Not a dab or any other form. RSO can last much longer than any other medication for neuro-muscular pain and stiffness.:ying: Often, it stops the pain for weeks! Recently made and used some from Jack Herer. The pain I used it for, is gone! Chronic pain can be acute. Even if it is essentially ugly!

IF I smoke for symptom relief, my entire day is wasted to fatigue. My preference is to smoke for relief, except, it has to be a strain that actually works for my specific pains.:blowbubbles: Pretty hard to overcome the fatigue and most strains tend to give me a less productive day.:tumbleweed: RSO is the opposite.:thank you: jpt
