Silica for drying/curing?

Buggy

While reading here and elsewhere, I thought about the silica powder that is used for flower drying - I can't find information anywhere.

This stuff works fairly quickly and preserves the color and shape of the flowers VERY well from my experience years ago, but what could that do for cannabis drying/curing?

But, would it possibly dry the outside too quickly for the insides to dry correctly? What other problems might this run into? I know the system with silica often was put in the microwave to speed things up with flowers, so is it possible that this could both dry and prep the cannabis for making oils and such more quickly?

Just looking for more knowledge. :)

Curing and drying are a slow process, it is a really bad idea to speed up the process, surest way I know to lock in a grassy/hay taste and smell.

Never do this to flowers you want to smoke. Ive done it with a few flowers for ornamental purposes they hold up well. Ive had my two for almost a year with fan leaves intact. The silica sticks to the trichs and makes them shine in a fake way.

If your talking about the desiccant packets, yes i have used them for drying buds in emergency situations. Wrap them up in something like a coffee filter cause they are not always approved to come in direct contact with food stuffs.

Put them back in the oven at around 100f for an hour and they are all dried out and ready to use again.

I am all about the 62% boveda pack or even better is buying the stuff inside the boveda pack in bulk and making your own bags out of the mesh bags they sell. I believe the product is called Heartfelt Humidity Beads. The beads come in 60%, 65% and 70%.

Re useable clay discs are made for controlling the humidity of tobacco - they might be something to look into.
