whats the best way to preserve a strain in seed form

I have grown a lot of different strains, and finally found a real skunky one. Everyone who smelled the jar , sat there for probably 2 minutes just smelling it. One friend said it smelled like straight up skunk piss, really skunky tho. But I wanted to try to make seeds of it , and was wondering what's the best way to do it. All I have is clones of it, no males. Thanks for any suggestions or help

I've never done it, but google up "using colloidal silver to produce feminized seeds" for a lot of info.

The resulting seeds will all be female, theoretically, and as close to the original plant as you can get w/ seeds. Not necessarily identical. They're referred to as "selfed", self pollinated from an environmentally induced hermaphrodite, and as S1's for short, being the first generation selfed from a clone.

you don't have a choice you gotta make fems. anything else is a crapshoot and may require lots of breeding.if ya try an cross it with something else god only knows the results. I tried it with a lemony strain and never got where I needed to be. fems will be what you want first try

Yup do some S1's and pass them along to seedbay, please.

Thank you.

i'm in the process of doing this with several strains now. i bought a bunch of old landrace strains and several are obvious to me worth trying to preserve. i ended up wth only one male/female of several strains.

s1's for the females is step one.

pollen dried for a couple of days and then stored on q-tips in marked pollen bags stored in freezer jars is step one for males. the pollen should keep slightly more than one year so i've got to get the job done relatively soon. i can keep male/female clones alive for longer duration but some clones were hard to keep alive. thus, the need for s1's of females and pollen for males.

i'm going the bx (backcross) route using more than one path on many.

on bx's you want to take a cross, say acapulco gold/cherry kandahar. i've got one acapulco gold female pheno from dr.gt's golden haze(ag/phz). i've got one male of cherry kandahar.

ok, i've got ag/ck beans made and i still have the clones of female ag and ck clone and pollen.

now it comes down to selection for the next step. i run the ag/ck seeds and pick a few ag leaning phenos and a few ck leaning phenos.

ok, how did you know which were ag leaning and which were ck leaning?

answer: selection. i picked ag which has very narrow sativa leafs from the earliest seedling stages. ck has indica/sativa looking leaves early seedling-all of vegetative cycle. selection of parents allowed me to determine which way the phenos of the f1 ag/ck were leaning at least visually.

now i take a non hemie, vigorous female ck pheno from f1 ag/ck and cross (backcross, bx) the ck pollen into the ck leaning f1. now i have (ag/ck)/ck lot of seeds. now i run these seeds and look for interesting ck leaning phenos to run and/or breed further (work the line further).

if the f1's don't seperate into ag and/or ck dom looking phenos then i make f2's crossing nice vigorous non hermie ag/ck into more ag/ck making ag/ck (f2). the f2's are known to show more seperation than f1's.

just because a f1/f2 seedling looks like the parent does not mean that it is a true breeding representation of the parent's desired attributes. this is where breeding work/skill by the breeder comes in and seperates the true breeders from the pollen chuckers imo :) .

outdoors in areas where cannabis grows naturally and produces indigenous landraces there are usually lots of different strains and pollen from lots of different strains in the air. the idea of a pristine unhybridized pure od strain might be a little too much of a pristine misconception. basically, take interesting phenos and run them and perhaps do a little bx'ing back to the original female clone and/or male pollen but try to keep from too much inbreeding and instead look for select phenos to work is how i''m doing my preservations.

on some strains i can use more than one combination to try to preserve a line. for cherry kandahar i only used one female (acapulco gold). for my zamal line out of zamaldelica i use many males for different zamal/x possible soucres of good zamal leaning males to bx back into my zamalish s1's.

what i'm looking for is to have a good seed batch that i can select promising phenos from. these seeds will need to be rerun every 5 years or so to keep the seed's gentics fresh and viable. the seeds should be kept in dark, cool, dry (dessicant, preferably colour indicating) vessels.

CS.. very easy man.. I just ran my CS Gen.. for 40 houors.. making a really high ppm CS solution.. . my buddy told me his CS lasted him 2 years.. go and find one of those tiny spray bottles .. and mix up a batch at atleast 30ppm. and your good to go ..

S1s are good because the selection your making is.. your female plant. x your female plant.. meaning.. out of the seeds. you will get shit that resembles ur female.. and then if you really go threw the seeds you should be able to find something almost identical to ur clone..

if you got a clone.. of a strain that's available in seed form already.. you could use the strain to find a male. but if its a good female and you want seeds that will allow you to stop growing for years.. and then find that pheno again.. S1s are the best choice.

Example, female on left will be getting pollen from the one on the right. Both went into flower the same day. However the one on the right was sprayed daily with colloidal silver .CS works great.

As I understand it, spraying a branch repeatedly with CS will produce male flowers on that branch & no others. A little pollen goes a long way properly applied. Some articles say not to smoke the rest of the plant, which I figure as goofy. Some people drink CS on a regular basis, claiming it has health benefits, which I also figure as goofy. Smoking the rest of the plant, it's not like you'll ingest enough to end up with argyria-

Generally silver is only slightly toxic to humans, so the risk of serious harm from clinical exposure is slight.[5] Clinical use of silver or silver compounds includes the treatment of external infections or in medical appliances. Chronic ingestion or inhalation of silver preparations (especially colloidal silver) can lead to argyria in the skin and other organs. This is not life-threatening but commonly is cosmetically undesirable.”[4][5][14][15]
