We were thinking about this as well.....could/should we use it in butter?

So far the only thing I have done with my left overs is lay them out on top of a 50g plastic bag for a full day to air the rest of the butane out sifting through it every few hours to show new surface area for venting. Then I bake with it, but the butter produced from it is VERY lethargic and I don't feel like I am properly medicated when I eat edibles made from pre-run trim/nugs.

I don't have a worm bin running right now, nor a garden (but was leaning towards making compost and moving my compost with me) as I am moving in less than 3 months. Is it safe after airing like that to give out to heads in need for free like I do my roach pile or can it hurt them... if I decide to not go the compost or worm bin route?

Grey Wolf is the most correct here, you can ziplock and freeze it and when you get a good composter you can add it then.

I am wondering what others out there do with their left over material after running it for BHO.

In my amateur experiments with small amounts I have repeatedly extracted the last drop out of left over material after soaking in a thermos for about two hours at -20C.
Decarboxylated in the oven and then soaked in fresh butane, as the first time.
The last drop extracted in the form of thick, viscous resin of dark color, ranged from 10% to 30% of the total extracted resin.
At the same cost of labor and supplies it was 2-9 times more expensive than premium quality amber.

Sometimes, I mix it with chocolate, but more often inhaled vapor, as from amber.
It is active, but has only a vague resinous odor without the characteristic and recognizable tones.

Probably the remains of the closed-loop are different from the thermos, but maybe they are not as empty as it seems at first sight?

Use the physical properties of butane to your advantage. Do you make BHO?

Yes i run a MKIII. your statement "If you blast cold enough, there is nothing left to extract." just doesn't make sense. yes cold gives a better quality extract, but it doesn't extract more or all of it. a 2nd wash with a warm solvent (ethanol) would probably give him some edible oil back.

For me, as soon as im done with it it goes right in the compost. no need to hold on to extra weight, its all the same in their eyes. Hot potato is the name of the game.

Prepare material and pack column. Pack dry ice around your column and let it sit for 15 or more minutes, your column will be approx -65F. Your cans of butane have been in the freezer and are cold. When you blast the butane is in a liquid form and permeates your material. I have used this process with ~225g material and 6-7 cans of butane. Use air pressure to evacuate the remaining butane in column after last can. Had remains lab tested. Results-nothing left to extract. The butane is not a gas during the extraction and stays in contact with the properly prepared material longer for a (more) complete extraction.

Well, as I was telling RegisPhilburn1 last week when we extracted, I use my spent material in two ways. First, if I need to make a full spectrum topical oil I'll do a "Cryo Boil" w/ iso for about 2 hrs (iso needs to be complete syrup to do this, like petrolum ether :) ). Filter material in cryo enviroment and activated charcoal with min heat to help the A/C work. I filter the A/C down to about 2 micron using a cotton plug method. Evaporate the iso, and winterize with Everclear for about 48hrs. The next thing I do is use it mix 50 % with my cat litter. It totally save cat litter, and acts as a natural order control ... I know it sounds nuts, but it works!!!

So your cat takes dumps in kittylitter and full spectrum topical oil at a 1:1 ratio?

I'm confused as to why waste time and solvent to do such a thing?

I usually do second run with butane, then winterize with ethanol, decarboxlate and cap em up.

I'm pretty sure he meant that he mixes the completely spent buds into his kittylitter.
Not a bad idea.
Until your kitty tracks buds onto your front porch.

Aloha,
