How long does it take for a clone to root?

5.6ph soaked peat pellets (jiffy pellets)... unheated propagator , clonex, move light down until peet temperature of aprox 68 F .\ 14 days

spray with 1ml/litre water nitrozyme mist....

to make super strong clones transfer into 3 inche rockwool cubes then back into prop for 1 week ....68 F soil/peat/medium temp

For this latest grow, I am cloning straight to soil in 1 qt square pots. 8 fit in a tray and the humid dome fits on top. Using clonex as well. Just did 50 and none have died yet. About 75% are keepers ad the others are a bit undersized.... as always. After 6 days I start with the mild ferts and on day 10 to 14, I take the dome off and go to town. Can't be that hard unless you are making a fundamental mistake. I see it as one or a combo of 3 things. Over water, under water or humid dome is not keeping in the humidity. assuming you cut your clones correctly, at an angle @1/4" below a node. I then split the stem up and into the node and dip in clonex. If you are doing all that then it has to be one of the 3 things because it is stupid simple. Oh yeah, I trim all leaves in half except the absolute top of the plant. that helps also.

ive noticed spraying them directly to much isnt that great .
I like the area to be nice n humid but I never spray the clones with water .I keep the light close enough so the moisture in the medium evaporates onto the container around it , and drips back down .
Change the air twice daily so it does not get stagnant and musky .

just don't rush them and mess with them to much .

Wow all good suggestions for all of you much respect so when i say this i hope none take offense to what i say deviant1 I have cloned a lot and the first few times i tried i got about a 90% success rate not to bad but i wanted 100% so i kept researching lots of time reading and looking into it here is what i do and if you want to try it hope it has a 100% turn over rate as mine has now. < I went the hydro store and got a black tray and clear ventable dome hood for it about $9.00 a small bottle of clonex $22.00 and i have used rockwool cubes $8.00 for a block of them oasis cubes $6.00 for a block or a bag of rapid rooter sponges 50 pk $16.00 any of these 3 will work just fine for what you want but i do faver the rapid rooter sponges a bit but they are pricey a one litter of ph down advanced nutes $16.00 5 gal bucket $8.00 spray bottle $3.00 Thrive alive B-1 $19.00 ph tester you can get a kit for about $8.00 but i spent $100.00 for the digital meter 2" cups with holes on sides and bottom 0.45 ea about 64 fit in a in the black tray but i don't recommend more than 32 at a time over crowding is not good but i can fit 2 trays under a 4' florescent light one warm and one cool bulb for the fixture and lights $35.00 at a hard ware store>

so take the 5 gal bucket fill about 3 or 4 gal of water let sit for about an hour or 2 to warm up to room temp and to get the extra chlorine out it will evaporate if you use the advance nutes ph down ti the most concentrate i have ever used the most pricey but will last forever one or 2 drops will drop a ph fast make sure you stir the water after putting the ph down in it check the ph you want it around 5.0 to 5.5 drop your cubes or rapid rooter sponges in and let soak for about 10 min grab your mother plant and make your cuttings how ever many you want to do do a straight cut off the plant bring all your cuttings to your black tray grab a cube from the water that is ph and put into a 2" cup and cut a 45 degree cut into one cutting after you cut it dip it into the clonex take the cutting and put into the cube in the 2" cup keep repeating untill all of your cutting are cut diped and put into the cubes fill the spray bottle with the ph water and spray all of your cuttings put the dome on your new cuttings about twice a day take it off for about 10 min to 30 min for fresh air they need to breath mist the plants twice a day before you put the dome back on after about 5 days get new ph water to 5.0 to 5.5 and mix in about 3 mil of b-1 thrive alive into 1 litter in the spray bottle and use it for the next 7 to 10 days within about 10 to 15 days all should have nice roots coming from them when you see roots then trans plant all of them just be careful not to damage the roots they are very fragile and can't be harmed if you want success. ph is very important I hope this helps all that want to clone its easy and not hard just takes time and the learning curve is quick.

Great info everyone, thanks alot.

Moneygrowonweed, I have all that you mentioned, so would be easy to do for me right now. I'm getn about a 90% survival rating right now, but like someone hear said," I want 100% survival". So I think I'll change things up a bit and see what happens, I hope I can get them all to grow. Thanks again everyone for all the helpful info, keep it comin, can never know too much!

Wel all techniques work by way of the users understanding, To understand is to be successful.
For cloning to be successful you need to provide the plant with moisture as you have cut it's roots off and it needs moisture, you get this through providing a dome for a moist environment.

Clip the tips of the leaves this will stop the osmotic pressure and also make for a good indication of new growth.

Next only provide rooting hormone by way of application on the area that has been cut.

The Cut should be made a couple of nodes from the tip of the the stem you are cutting from. The area where you want to make your cut is through the last node, I get more success cutting directly through a node, that's where plant resources are the highest.

Cut the node immediately dip it in the hormone and into your ph balanced medium, maybe with a drop of superthrive in the liquid.

Place under a CFL with the dome, under 24/7 light, min. 18/7.

Some strains root better than others I have found landrace to be the best for cloning.

I used a heating mat once it did seem to help but I am okay with waiting so I do not use a Heat mat.

Peace

Buy an Ezcloner or goto DIY ezcloner thread and build one for less than $100 . In either case you will have to add 10ml of clorox to the Rez which is the secret to fast rooting without slime. My Ez cloner 120 is over 10 years old and the only reason its not working now is because i have no place to put the rooted clones it produces!! Can you believe it too many clones!! Yes i have too many clones

if I read coorectly from your first post your taking the cuts from the lower part of your plant/s?

maybe start taking clones from the top down.

I used to take those little plants as cuts since it just seemed to be a waste, after a while I began to learn that it was a waste of time to take those/that lower foliage for anything other than garbage

and even if they do root it will take that a damned long time to do it.

I clone with my own mixture; 50/50+= 50% vermiculite/50% perilite, +EWC; use atleast one inch or the lower part of the cut to scrap off the outer layer of the stem in about two different spots use your cloning medium (I have been using this powder called rootone for years, (I literally mean I have had the same medium sized baby jar full of the stuff and its lasted me for years and hasnt failed me yet), fill your beer cup up with the mixture, fill the cup half way with pH'd waterput the clone straight in, use clear beer cup as dome and wait for 2wks.

the ones that are covered haven't rooted yet, once they have rooted the domes come off so regular respiration can take place . . .

I don't believe in there being just one way to do something and I like to try different styles and methods to see what actually works and what doesn't. ive learned that there are certain aspects and principles you MUST adhere to no matter what you try, if you don't have those things in order at the very least then things will fall apart and you'll see no results and in my book ANYTHING is better than nothing.

Cool method, lots of cups.

peace

yeah man its a problem that ive always had and that's too many cuts for my flower area.

the little ones either don't make it or take forever and the bigger cuts are always the ones that popped roots in 10 days

once they popped I had no place to put them and once they started to get bigger, and they always got bigger quickly, it ended up being more of a curse than a blessing so for me it was lesson learned.
