Hi everyone, i'm getting ready for my second grow, I've got my hands on a tent 8x4, two cooltubes and a couple o 600 hps, my first grow was in the closet with cfl's, I don't have the closet anymore as I've moved house, my question is, can I grow from seed under these 600s or will I have to get the cfl's back out until they get up a bit ?, the thoughts of getting the cfl's back out gives me a pain in the you know what, (25 x 14 watt bulbs) if it's gotta be, it's gotta be but i'd like to just go start to finish with the hps; will they stretch,, burn,, I dunno, I've got the ventilation sorted so heat won't be an issue, any input at all will be appreciated, cheers everyone, goodluck.

your good I use 600s too. you can absolutely veg with the 600. I am assuming their hps . the plants might stretch and not be as compact as a halide or other bulb.

Seedlings really can't handle 600hps right off the bat, you'll fry them unless you keep them really far away ... then you're just wasting electricity and making heat for no benefit. You can do it, but it's pretty wasteful.

Lower wattage bulb in the tent, or bust out the CFLs for a couple/few weeks. Just my opinion.

Supes FTW.
Just start with one light keep it at distance you should be fine.

When you get the time whip up a nice cfl nursery.

blah. keep the light high and slowly lower it over time. how come I have seedlings in full sun in so cal all the time. I also have them under a couple 600s.and vegging under the same wattage as you flower gives better results for me than when I used lower wattage\lumens . for my test tent.I went from 400+ watts floro to using enhanced 600 and my yield went up a good bit. plants were a bit more lanky going into flower tho. next upgrade get switchable ballasts like I did . then ya can just change bulbs an flick a switch. 600 are my fav bulb but can be a pain to get in my current area.my 1000s and 400s are in storage lol. 400s were to small and 1000s too big 600s are just right and very versatile along with good watt/lumen ratio. peace

Ok superman, thanks for replying, I'm gonna take your advice and scrap the 400 mh, stretching is what I'm trying to avoid but I can control that, I'm gonna be growing 8 plants, 4 under each light, should I start the 8 of them under just one light until they get up a bit, goodluck.

Doing the whole grow with a 600 HPS (multi spec bulb) would be just fine and I always start my seedlings under my HPS (400) and stick with it until harvest and plants will always stretch less under an HPS as there is more red in the spectrum. Plants stretch due to SARP and it never happens with me using an HPS muli spec bulb.
