New Grow

Some of those haven't grown AT ALL. That's not pheno variation. My guess would be the roots haven't reached water level yet and they're just getting by on the little moisture the hydroton's passively wicking.

In the future it usually works better to start them in smaller pots and transplant to 5 gallons once they have a healthy root mass built up. Going straight into a 5 gallon slows growth and I'm willing to bet it caused this problem.

As far as cutting them down, that's your choice. I probably wouldn't unless they still looked like that right before the flip to flowering. As it is they are barely growing, so they're not taking up root space or nutrients. No harm in leaving them where they are and waiting to see what happens.

Might want to try hand watering the small ones from the top for a few days. See if that helps give em a bit of extra juice to stretch their roots downward.

They are looking very good :) good job man! The attention to detail seems to be paying off for you. That's about 10x better than my first grow. I flowered out two males by accident my first time and got 1/2 ounce of bud and some seeds from a 400w HPS >.<

many thanks mate :) im very happy with how they are going so far. I have been had watering, i ph the water to 5.5 shall i add anything extra, i have a range of nut ? any recommends, or shall i just keep watering and let them be.

also do you have any advice about vegging ? i want to grow them big like trees:) better yield i would imagine.

Looking great! As far as nutes go your plants look like they're getting the right amount for their size.

I'd keep hand watering the smaller plants that you want to keep. Maybe once a day or something since I thought they were in rockwool cubes under the hydroton. Don't look like they've started blowing up yet - IME once the roots start to get into the well watered zones the change is immediately obvious.

At this point you should have a better idea of which plants are going to be able to make it to the top and which are gonna get totally choked out by their neighbors. There's one around dead center that's what I'm talkin about. Might be good to cut out the ones that aren't going to be able to make it to the canopy. I was hesitant to suggest it before but now it seems pretty obvious which ones are going to be permanently overshaded.

yeah using canna, :)

im 6 weeks into vegging, going to veg a little longer get them nice and tall :)

Nice!

The age of the plants will affect yield to a certain extent because it'll allow the root masses to develop. The other component is getting the canopy full and level. Even canopy means you can have more plants being lit with the best efficiency. Fullness means the bottom parts where light will never hit is pruned up and the plants aren't all grown in to each other - that decreases air circulation and increases chances of pests or disease.

It might be a good idea to hack back the big one in the front a bit so it doesn't massively overgrow the rest of the canopy.

You're looking great dude. Keep up the good work. It's always nice to see such a happy first run.

thanks bud,

yeah i was thinking of removing dead leafs and just thinning out the bottom leafs as there is a lot that will not be getting much light.

kinda hard to tell but it looks like early nitrogen deficiency. I wouldn't take my word on that but if you wanna trust me then up the veg base nute dose a bit. If you wanna check for yourself then I HIGHLY recommend every grower have a copy of the Cervantes' Bible to refer to. Don't worship it, but refer to it. They should have a link to a digital copy of it somewhere on this site.

You're doin great man! keep up the good work!
