Terpenation at Terpene Station

Speaking of trying novel methods, has anybody run water cured plant material? It seems like an interesting way to pre-process plant material so that less contaminants end up in the final product, and might even lead to efficiency gains as water cured bud loses more of its non-thc constituents, which means packing more goodness into each tube :)

Still need help with the SST hose. haha

From Flexicraft; Call and order SB1 hose with 1/4" male JIC connections.

Does this sound right?

Ya and then get those yellow jacket brass pieces that Mr Durden linked.

Btw Mr Durden, are you running one of those take apart filters now? I finally got moisture indicator and it was showing orange so I freaked and almost bought one. The one I was looking at weighs like 50lb on its own and is made for systems 100+ tons large or something. Was wondering if this would cause any issues for our application?

Not yet. I'm going to have my machine shop set it up with npt. fittings. It is wildly overkill, but I'd like the piece of mind.

The one you are looking at is too big. Get a Emerson stas-485t. It should be made for the liquid line

My Apologies

My Apologies

My sincere apologies to everyone for losing my cool, and falling into the drama. Its been a very trying month. With conflict on the home front and challenging hurdles on the job, mixed with harvest time tensions and seeing true colors of people once trusted and close. With mercury in retrograde and two eclipses this month that was only a small portion of the ebb. I kind of lost sight of things, dealing with opposition from every angle. I have turned on the ignore option and have resolved to let my actions and illustrations do the talking instead of arguing and throwing insults. Not my thing, but I am human and sometimes fall prey to the ego and pride. Lots of good vibes to everyone! Positive words help guide those who step off the path from time to time.
Thank you for showing your support, both public and private.
Much love, One love.

In Spirit and in Unity,

I'd be upset too if I had all that equipment and kept making wax :-(

Finally got my mk 3 up and running!!! Figured I would contribute and encourage the positivity and communal vibe of the thread and share some of my experiences. Will try to get some pics soon.

@FE I must say after a few long days getting everything sorted I truly appreciate the work you have put into your thread. What a service. :thank you:

Your pics of the bho crystals are one of a kind, your certainly bringing something to the communities attention that has most likely been under our noses all along and that no one else has documented publicly(AFIAK)
Again:thank you:

I did have a problem pressure testing, probably my karma for ringin some pressure testing bells in the bhogart thread. :) Safety first...

After several attempts with various amounts of gas rated teflon tape and no success I brought the machine to my welder bros and gave them a chance to have some fun taping, twsting, threading and testing. They pulled out wrenches bigger than the bong and eventually tried a different stainless t. Finally upon closer inspection we looked at the threaded nipple and it was burred along the second thread..... so we had the t welded to the nipple on the lid. Im not a welder but it looked like a tricky weld. I lucked out 'cuz my metal dude is a musician (timing coordination) and an artist (attention to detail) this makes him a baddass welder......NO LEAKS
YAY!!

We dont have a vac pump at the moment... the appion seemed to work fine getting down to -28....which leads me to my next questionssssssssssss..my apologies if they have been brought up already..

Is anyone out there just using the recovery pump?

Any of you intelligent beings care to enlighten me to the pros and cons of pulling the full vac with a vac pump vs pulling the partial vac with the recovery pump?

Are there any major concerns using the appion to pull vac besides atmosphere getting into the line?

@nakadashi I have done a qwet with water cured herb about 8 years ago. The final product was red and shatter like but there was such a small amount and at the time I didnt have any proper equipment so I never got to truly "taste or test" it.

I water cured for two weeks and completely removed all of the chlorophyl by the end of it. The plant matter was completely white and without any noticeable odor. Perhaps I cured for to long?

I feel that alot of terps are also going to leach into the water, since its the "universal solvent". Unless you are winterizing and or going for purity over flavor and taste, I dont think water curing is of practical interest to the average dabber. Please, dont let my words discourage you from the desire to explore and experiment. I wont condemn you for extracting in the manner of your choosing.

I remember years ago when bubble hash was really popular and there was a butane vs bubble epidemic. Seemed like everyone had something to say about it. One thing I remember was pro butanees mention that "certain terps are water soluble and thats why bho is superior in taste."

Can anyone post test results of their shatter with no or low residual butane, from a reputable lab...I dont want to start drama with anyone but I think that most shatter still has alot of residual 'tane left in it. I know you can get away with that in many places, but some states are setting standards for concentrates, both recreational and medical. Just curious if someone has methods that have been consistently tested.

Hope everyone has a great Beltane or Samhain! All Hollows, Day of the Dead or whatevs:dance013:

Your Appion's upper end will be short lived pulling to -28". That is how I quickly ended up installing my first upper end seal kit.

It may pull to -28 on a good day new, but it won't after some wear, unless you also use heat.

The Appion vents to the tank, and the vacuum pump vents to atmosphere. The first thing you want to do in the process, is remove all the oxygen and waste it to atmosphere.

300 series stainless steel threads gall badly with insufficient tape or a never seize compound. Sometimes so badly that you can't even get them apart without cutting. I put about five wraps on the stainless to stainless fits, and tighten them down hard.

I stick a crow bar between the center riser and the ones on the side, so I can put enough torque on the fittings.

I'd just get male npt on the hoses and add the correct yellow jacket fitting to be able to make a proper connection. i do know some don't run gaskets at the connection point, but i am unsure if making a metal to metal connection that is tightened and loosened on a daily basis would be a good thing? at least with a gasket, you can replace it every so often as needed.

For those who use heat where are you measuring it? The water, the collection pot?

when we have used heat, i used a thermostat stuck between the wyott and the bottom of the IIIa. i raised the IIIa off the bottom a bit with lids from mason jars or flat bottomed pieces of marble like glass.

so the wyott gets plugged into this:

http://www.amazon.com/RANCO-ETC-111...?ie=UTF8&qid=1383230922&sr=8-1&keywords=ranco

just make sure you use the lower settings on the wyott as it is easy to overshoot temps

Lebniis,
My 1/4 JIC flexicraft hoses have been working great for me, no gaskets, no Teflon liner, all stainless, i usually only remove them once a day. Order some 1/4 male npt- 1/4 JIC while you are ordering stuff from flexicraft. The 1/4 JIC fit on the 1/4 SAE brass but i felt a little better having the tighter fit on the JIC connections and an all stainless terp is pimpin :smokey:

ICdog, I just measure the temp of the water. It would be much more accurate to install some sort of thermowell with a probe that dips into the oil, but there is only so much room on the top of the terp so it would be pretty tricky to install.

Highlife45, I would vent that tank off ASAP, you likely have a ton of air in there.

definitely do not use your appion as a vac pump :/

how are you going to purge your material without a vac pump??

your comment regarding most shatter having too much residual butane in is based on what? you can't really tell visually and what would you consider a lot of tane?

the last secret cup down our way had half the entrants fail the residual butane test :/ and some big names failed. it isn't hard to purge shatter properly... it just takes time and you can't let a skin form on the top of the oil. we purge about 30 hours at low temps (around 100 degrees) with a combination of hard vac and just under full vac.

don't my way, i only know of one lab doing residual butane tests. comes in handy that they also do terp profiles :)

Is this a joke? If not, we live on different planets, with different water, chlorophyll, and marijuana.
In my locations chlorophyll is not washed with water cure and buds are becoming not white, and almost black.

i built a scaled up version using a 3x36 column. last time i talked with carla, she didn't see them offering something of that size.

honestly, never thought i'd build something that size, but we are just too busy even running two IIIa's, and honestly, it is a pain cleaning, loading, and emptying those columns. of course we will keep one of the units for nug runs and indoor. just nice to be able to easily run 8 or so lbs a day with less work
