Heath's Vertical Trees -- Attainable?

Hi All. I've been lurking about here for a while, and I absolutely love reading through all of your excellent work on here. I especially loved Heath Robinson's vertical trees thread, and I want to set up something similar, but I'm worried that perhaps I'm setting my expectations too high to get 4 pound trees out of it with just two months time of veg (I believe this is the time Heath said he spent on it).

My question is are these kinds of results really attainable? Has anyone else done it?

I'm by no means, by the way, questioning whether Heath Robinson did it (I'm sure he did taking one look at those giants!). But this would be my second grow, and want to know if I'm being somewhat unrealistic in my hopes.

FYI, I have a 10 foot by 5 foot tent that I'd plan on putting two trees in, and I plan on getting another smaller tent (maybe 4 x 8?) within which to veg.

Also, I couldn't tell from the thread, but did Heath just completely forgo the air stones and air pumps and rely solely on dissolved oxygen created by top feeding?

Anyway, if anyone on here has any words of wisdom or a similar setup and reasonable expectations, that'd be fantastic. Thanks....

I should also mention that I have two of these, which I'd probably use for veg:

I have four 600 watt HPS w/ digital ballasts and I could get one more to replicate his setup of,

o-----------o
---x--o--x---
o-----------o,

where o are the lights and x are the trees. Would most likely hang cool tubes from the ceiling (rather than bare bulb) to help with the temperatures.

yes your expectations are too high. Don't be discouraged though. Stay dialing..

Just say no to cool tubes.

heath had alot more goin on there than just lights/vert/placement. he had a hella dialed in dwc sytem i think which generated massively healthy root systems. i think he also had large amounts of fresh air for cooling. and don't forget the high yield strain he was running. alot goin on there but a worthy goalpost fer sure! i'm attempting to replicate as well but i don't expect to get near the yield as he without alot of fine tuning. my flower room is 7x7x7. lights are 3x600w + 2x400w in the following configuration:
o----X----o
x----o----x
o----X----o
i'm 2 weeks into flower and they're looking pretty good. the ak's are definitely out performing the bagseed so far.

lol, u don't want my setup. you're shootin for heath's yields not mine. mine have yet to be determined.
keep fiddling and reading hear on icmag. you'll figure out what works best for you. keep us updated.

don't count your chickens before they hatch.... that said, I expect a pound per 1k and when I harvest more(I have so far) everything else is a bonus. you will need major air exchange, at least 2 per minute, no more than 10 degrees difference lights on and lights off. try not to let it get much lower than 70 ( lights off) and much higher than 80 (on). read up on vpd. 70% humidity through stretch, then below 60% after and until harvest. you will need something in place to support them when they are swelling. you will have to grow the strain out a few times to know how to train it and what will need to be removed. ... there are so many variables.
this is the tree grow I am currently harvesting. I put too many plants in here for how big they are....I intended to grow some bushes, but they got big fast and stretched out of control. they crowded and choked each other out which negatively affected yield. I didn't start out expecting poound+ plants... I was hoping for 4-8 per plant, but because I didn't stay with in the parameters, I probably won't even hit the low end of those numbers. there are some people on this site such as ghetto grow, delta9nsx, highlife45 and some more that are growing monsters. check their threads out and good luck!

Nice work otis! Looking good. One thing I did think about when seeing your setup is why did you use those 5 gallon (I presume) buckets? I feel like getting a huge rootball is so vital to growing trees... do you think this is a limiting factor?

Desert Hydro that looks like a pretty sweet set up. Do you have a thread on here logging your grow and set up?

Ah forgive me Otis -- is that a PPK system you've got going there? I presume you use coco as the media?

You can do anything you put your mind to... :)

Its not Heath's trees, they're bobblebeds... 3 plants, each will be over a lb, guaranteed!

I know its not vert... Just saying the possibilities are endless, and don't get hung up on mimicking Heath to attain your goals.

Don't personally know Heath, but to piggy back Bobbles hell yeah it's possible. Feeding those trees the way Heath does with that "fast hydro" and proper space for the roots to grow, with the correct atmosphere, lumens per sq ft and the right genetics, fuck yeah. Hydro or soil, the end result will be dictated by how much the roots can grow.

yes, ppks, they are in chow mix 50/50 coco /clay pebbles. they are actually 2 gal buckets... you can grow surprisingly big plants in small containers with coco. I was intending to grow smaller plants, but ppks grow them big whether you like it or not. after my seed run I will switch to 4 plant 5 light configuration and I will also switch to a wider top ontainer as they have been proven to grow bushier plants. I will most likely also switch to turface or floor dry and Jack's

Otis gimme a quick run down on a PPK system if ya don't mind, not familiar with them at all.

Please do! Ive been wondering myself. Ive been out of growing for 2 or 3 years and came back to tons of people running PPK set ups but no definition really of the specs of a PPK grow
