dont know if im in the right section... but here goes.

Im looking for a RO system and... is there a big diffrence bettwen 3 step and 5 step? I will use it for plants, but also for drinking. my water out the tap is 0,037 ec. I know its low and you maybe think you dont need an ro system... but there is something in the water that makes the belly go aouch.
I've found a cheap 3step ro unit, and the 5 step is about 4 times the $$, so do you Think the 3 step would be good? couse i Think it is a virus in the water, would the 3 step take care off that you Think?

Sounds like not enough disinfectant in your water

A quality filter should remove pathogens, but not hardness.

But it sounds like you don't much hardness either

You can verify with your water department, and tell them about the stomach problem. They may not know if you don't tell them

I dont live in a city, and its know that who drinks this water the first times get a stomach ache, some who have lived in this village for years still get belly problems and dont drink it any more, some dont get any problem... so it is what it is and it is what its not....

No, the water is not so hard, the ph is 6.5.

So any cheap ro unit should get this sorted out you think?

In ROs, I can tell you quality membranes and filters cost a lot more than cheap ones, and cheap ones don't last very long and are very limited in the input water quality that they can filter.

Yes, 3 stage is sufficient, but for disinfecting without additives, a UV sterilizer is what you need. Good luck. -granger

You need to find out what type of chlorine your water department uses, then buy a filter accordingly. A proper filter should solve the tummy issues, but make sure to replace it ~ 4 months.

You need a Diatom filter, not an RO unit. Diatomaceous Earth will filter down to less than a micron, microbes gone! Given the "villiage" reference, I'd say that the "villiage" needs a commercial "swimming pool" type of filtration system on the entire potable water supply. I spend a lot of time down in SA, and I have this for my drinking/cooking water:

Thanks for the link. I have used DE for internal use to kill pathogens. Mix 1/2 tsp to ~ 8ozs every day, or should you eat something that upsets your digestive tract.

Using as a water filter is a great idea.

FYI non food grade DE it is available inexpensively at feed stores. Would work in a pinch in a 5g bucket

For good drinking and cooking water, i highly recommend this product.
It is a counter-top type filter, meaning you pour the water into it yourself, as opposed to being hooked into your water line..
These filters will remove everything except viruses. Only boiling or iodine will kill viruses..
I've been using mine for years, usually putting city tap water thru it, which removes the chlorine and chemicals and makes it taste like water from a bubbling spring.. However, in case of a serious SHTF senario, you can put water from any river, creek, or even mud puddle thru it and feel confident it will be safe to drink...
You can even take it with you when you go camping and use it for safe water at your campsite.
