hush's micro scrog

The plant is looking beautiful, but for some reason I've been having trouble taking any good pics of the whole plant. So I guess a single bud will have to do. Here's a bud on day 62:

I will be letting this one go a little longer than I normally take Sadhu. I figure it would be nice to have some couchlock bud. I'll probably harvest around day 70 or so.

Very nice, Hush. I have always been fascinated with micro grows, and fully intend to try my hand at the at the art, one of these days. Those buds are the frostiest I have seen, given the wattage used!

I seriously can't get over how much bud is on this plant, for only 92 watts! Of spiral-style CFL's!! Those only emit about 50% of their actual light, I think. It sincerely blows me away!!! So I am going to keep doing this, to try it out with diferent strains. It's such a ridiculously easy way to get some extra smoke, or do some breeding, or seed-making, that sort of thing. :)

Haven't even on IC in a minute! Damn they blew up. Looks great man. Can't wait to see some harvest pics.

I have some pennies coming at ya!

That plant stretched way to far out of the scrog- perhaps if the light spectrum was changed out to red there would be less of a stretch or tighter inter-nodes.
Using flora series from gh? I love the stuff and I know some one up top said it already- but those plants were way too green. Do you use PPM pens? I wonder what the concentration of your nutes were? I know for a fact that 650 PPM under cfl's is enough from start to finish. If you were using the recommended bottle dose I think it's around 1200 PPM. So diluting it by 1/3 - 1/2 could have saved you some money on plant food, kept the plants at a nice green color, and it's also slightly less wasteful. I have not seen the big garden you have, and I'm not trying to be a douche in any way- but the smaller grows are easier to maintain why not do it the justice they deserve?

I was liking the do it yourself scrog method with twine and duct tape- very clever.
But the plants grew way to much out of it. Maybe stakes next time?

Well this is all good info, so thank you, but I think you might be missing the theme of this grow... it's meant to be more of a set it and forget it kind of grow. I admit, the scrog could have been done a bit better, and that was one thing I originally planned on allowing myself to spend time on, but my 1000w harvest ended up eclipsing this grow for about 2 weeks, and I just allowed it to do its own thing.

Truly, though, the whole point of this grow was to see what could be done with little to no ANYTHING at all, and just see what happened. Because of that, no, I was not whipping up any nutrient batches specifically for this grow. And if I had, I would have made it a point NOT to use any meters. I was basically using the same nutrient solution I was mixing for the HPS grows, and alternating with just water. I've been doing small micro grows for over 2 decades now, and I don't do them because I have to anymore... I'm doing them now for experimental purposes, to see what can be done, what can be ignored, and what can come from a piddly little junk setup. Many people I know can benefit from this data.

I get, though, that you aren't coming at me like a douche or anything, so no worries there. But yeah, the theme of this grow is pretty much to do exactly the things that you are [rightfully] recommending against. The harvest will be given away to the needful... I'm not growing to maximize yield on this round. Although that might be an experiment I'll get around to, for this same class of lighting. :tiphat:

Wow looking great. I also canr believe the buds you are getting off 92w! Kudos! xant wait to see final weight.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm guessing I have at least an ounce here, maybe more. I know lots of people who need to see this working out successfully... I tell people all the time that they need to start growing for themselves, in a tiny little unused space, using barely any lighting, and they don't believe me that it can be done. What I'm shocked about myself is how nice and plentiful the buds are! I was expecting maybe 10 grams or so, lol. Some people could totally supply themselves, fully, by doing a grow like this. Weekend warrior types, or people who only smoke a tiny bit right before bed or something like that.

One thing I've learned in my 20 years of cultivating this plant is that people tend to talk themselves out of growing it for themselves, because they think they need to have large gardens in order to make it work. But I want to show those people that that is nonsense. Look what can be done with 4 rinkydink spiral fluorescents, no reflectors, plants growing in pure perlite, barely being checked on once every 3 or 4 days, if they are lucky. I will be showing lots of people this thread. :)

Well, thank you Sir :tiphat:

It is indeed this kinds of threads that make people like me, who have talked themselves out of growing, want to grow.

Truly inspiring.

My pleasure, friend. Also, if you haven't already, you should check out Blynx's thread on growing under CFLs in small, 1 sq ft spaces. That guy knows how to maximize yield under spiral fluorescents! If you think of this grow of mine as being a sort of "entry level" type of grow, Blynx's cabinets are the perfected evolution thereof.

hey hush, thanks for making this thread. ive been bummed cause im in an apt, and cant really grow with the big boys (and girls) but this had inspired me to tone it down a notch, and flower out a micro grow. Thanks!

My pleasure! Also, since it was never brought up before now (I don't think), I should mention that there is no odor control on this grow. The need for odor control can complicate things, but it is always recommended where stealth is of utmost importance. In this particular case, I'm growing a strain (Sadhu) that doesn't have a very strong odor, and the odor it does have is kind of ever-so-slightly catpiss-like (among a predominant non-cannabis, melon-type of smell). It just so happens that my cats' litter box is in the same room as this grow, so that tends to cover up most of the smells, and anything that remains is honestly covered up by a plug-in Glade air freshener.

But keep in mind, for those of you who need proper stealth, that you will need to choose strains wisely, or cover up your odors.

Hey Hush. Plants look great. Even if they are a little dark green it always makes them look so lush huh? Lol. I just wanted to let you know I agree and think its great that your just experimenting in there. I have the same thing going on, got the 4k room and then the little experiment/have fun CFL tent. I haven't heard of the Sadhu but she looks like a beautiful lady. Did I read right that it is a hash plant type of strain?

Thanks guys. Smotpoker, thanks for the kind words. Yeah this is all about having fun, testing the limits, and taking notes on what it can handle.

Sadhu is a discontinued strain from Mandala. It was a hybrid that contained landrace genes from Kashmir, India. This is a place where hash making is a big part of the culture, and yes, the plants there are known for their charas. But this isn't related to like, Sensi Hashplant or anything like that.

Even the fan leaves get covered in crystals! :D

Well I decided to harvest the plant last night. That means I let it go 66 days. Only 3 days longer than usual, but under magnification I can see tons more amber than I do at 63. Hardly any more clear, either. Just, mostly cloudy and amber trikes. So I harvested. I needed the space back anyway.

I managed to snap a pic of the whole plant before chopping:

And here's one of the lower buds:

So, now I just have to decide on what plant to put in here next! Either Stacked Kush or Lemon Skunk...
