Is this purged enough?

I was thinking this forum could use a thread where members can ask if their concentrates are purged well enough.

To help them avoid dabbing butane and learn the tell tale signs of when oil is ready, like Co2 bubbles.

A lot of people rush the purge and tell themselves it's done when it's not quite ready.

Maybe with some community feedback their can be a better understanding of when BHO is properly purged for dabbing.

So let's start... is this purged enough?

you are probably the best judge since you can smell it and dab it. Looks like a lot of trapped gas in those blobs. Id hit it with some heat quickly til it melts enough to spread it out super thin all over that dish then hit it with another flash of heat til it clears up then let it cool... for at least 30+ min then dab

when I say flash it with heat, I mean something like a heat gun, dont heat the dish... Unless you like wax...

Defiantly not purged enough, looks like oil scraped up after a short heat purge before the vac. There's a great understanding of what clean bho is, unless your a noob.

Your oil should be completely translucent, no bubbles or clouding, stability will come from proper temperature and use of fresh material. Sappy texture can be due to retained solvent, partial decarboxylation pre/post extraction and very terpene rich oil may result in a lower viscosity oil. When transferred or moved new bubbles should not appear this is telltale sign of being underpurged with shatter/sap.

Butane bubbles can be easily discerned from terpene bubbles, those bubbles in the picture are butane, they are very large and the formation looks just like a product while its purging.

I pitty the fool who dabs that.... over time this will only get worse, its best to separate / purge solvent ASAP as it will degrade the product and do other nasty stuff.

There is also the lighter test..flame test....whatever you want to call it..

Take a piece on your dabber..put flame next too...but not touching...if a butane bubble forms, when it pops you will get a flare-up...

There are more experienced bho makers than me on here, but if you get flare-ups it is not a good thing.

Or if your BHO is kinda runny and gives you headaches like an inexperienced friend found out recently....at least he blasted outdoors tho..lol

Worry not friends, no one is dabbing this. Not yet at least.

Good call midwest, that was after a few warm water baths at around 110F.

This is after the covered warm water baths. It melted down and spread out thin. Then let it cool, it hardened up right away. Another melt down and then all night on the heating pad on low. Big difference in the bubbles size, quantity, and appearance. Still needs some more time.

The longer the solvent is with the trichome content the worse it is for the product, so the faster you purge this the better, even 1 hour in solvent can be to much imo

Can u elaborate a bit more on this? You are the first person I'm hearing this from and I'd like to know more.

Wow you guys can keep sharing this gross common knowledge and I will stick to doing my own thing. Best of luck trying to win a cannabis cup w bho. Won't happen in this lifetime against legit co2 concentrate.

It already does regularly brother. Take the Seattle Cup for instance.

Is anyone aware of a CO2 entry that has ever won?

ive experienced this, the longer the solvent sits before beginning to purge the harder it is to purge the solvent entirely due to it bonding together

people have refined their technique over the years and those who let their product sit all in one for hours before purging always reported having a hard to impossible time purging it all out completely

i do not have all the answers but hope this helps
