Couple questions about coco and drip dtw

Hey guys...

Thinking about running Pico's drip manifold. I am setting up a 5X5 tent...with a 4X4 flood tray running 16 plants in 1 gallon smart pots.

If I am running DTW...do I still need an inline particle filter?

I plan on feeding at least 3x during flowering....I would like to use a lowes yellow lid tub(25 gallons) for my reservoir....will that be large enough to get me through 1 week?

Does drip plus DTW mean that you can get away with a much smaller reservoir size. I am accustomed to running a 50 gallon res with my hydroton flood and drain.....but this drip DTW is really turning me on for some reason.

Can I just use a bucket for my waste coming through the tray?

TIA

Depends what youre feeding if you need a filter or no,chunky organic blends ect will need one, other wise none needed.

Best to step up and go to big r or some feed store and get a water trouph sp? of 40g or so. Or use your 50gal you already have. secondly try to keep res outside of tent and yes you can use a second res for your catch can but make sure it as atleast as big if not bigger than your feed tank incase of malfunction. Dtw is lovely all you gotta do is add to the res, ph is perfect no build up no problems.

I think you should use a larger rez! Even though I don't use organic nutes I still use an inline filter as well as drip clean or ata drip (I think it's called). Having a clogged dripper can really set you back! Like he said^ , the bigger runoff rez the better - in case of a timer malfunction..
The 25 gallon rez should last you about 4-5 days or so..

ummmm...well the crappy part of this whole story is...I don't have any room outside of the tents for anything...it has to be a self contained unit. I guess I could have 2 of the same size rez's in there for safety purposes.

Who here thinks I should stick with ebb and flood?

I really don't like the way the roots come out of the pots in ebb and flood with hydroton. Maybe I should look in to a coco mat? I don't know...Im confused. I wouldn't be against ebb and flood with coco in smart pots. I just don't want to run in to problems.....I might as well just stick with what I know at that point.

Thanks for listening.

Stick to what you can juggle comfortably mate. Ebb and flow is great.
I like coco DTW with multi feeds via drippers. i find the filter on the pump does the good job. Big rez or 2 is cool, but id not leave it for a week, id prefer to change it twice a week, to keep the oxygen levels up.

I run coco dtw with a homemade drip setup similar to pico's, gh nutes, no particle filter, 5"x5" pots, 16 plants in a 5x5 tent with the exact same totes you're talking about for reservoirs. however, I run a perpetual in there,8 plants per crop to pull 8 down every 35 days so I run 2 res's at a time. the 27 gal hdx with the yellow lid works fine for me. I run 10 gal per res and it lasts about a week which works for me as my feeding ratio changes every week or 2 so I would think if all 16 are getting the same nutes one of those totes with 20 gallons in it would make it through a week for you. on the tray, it'd work and it's in my future as well but right now I keep mine elevated on top of an empty pot inside saucers and shop vac the runoff. my drip lines are 1/2" tubing with 1/4" feeder lines open ended without drippers fed by a small pump. been running it a few months now with no problems and ridiculous cheap to setup. and imo you'll like it more than e&f, I know I do

I'm running coco DTW. 6 plants in 5 gal airpots. I have (2) 16"x6' trays on wheels about 3" off the ground. I have the 1/2" drain tube running about 25' to a drain. It goes through a wall to the other side of the place. I can put a cup at the drain side and get EC/pH readings when needed. I have no filters. Here's a crappy pic.

way big for my setup, I use a very small 110gph pump on it's lowest setting, it gives me runoff in about 20 seconds. cheap cheap cheap. I have a friend that has a pvc manifold per pico's design and he only uses a 220gph. shoot me a pm if you need any help bro

One more thing,,,
I'm feeding all six, under 2k hps, from a 55 gal res that is in the adjacent room. It's on a timer set for (8) 2 minute feedings. I like the bigger res cause its less time measuring nutes.

I have done every hydro system there is and this may be the best yet. Yes, coco is basically hydro. I just need to try granulated RW in these airpots to see which is the easiest and fastest while providing big yields,
