Received 2 @ 45w ufos- one NW & one WW that will not be in production.

I replaced the vanity light bar with the WW ufo. This is good and bad as it concentrates the light in a ~ 10" circle whereas the light bar easily covered all 4 canopys.

Will likely modify the hanging bracket so I can add the other one

Finally seeing a few sexing. Sigh! Still no signs of G13 sex, but should be any day now

HOT5
Tent

Alas, another WH male. This one surprised me. It is the smallest one (and very bushy) in the HOT5 tent. I was sure it would be a female

Plants on the Move

I replaced the male from the hot5 tent, with what I hope to be a female (WHx) from the led tent.

LED Tent

The middle spot was open, so I moved the G13 from far right to the center position.

Removing the vanity bar lowered the tent temps a few degrees. The Philips and Feit A19s are bigger than the Crees and generate a lot of heat; those leaves in closest proximity were suffering accordingly

While playing musical chairs, it now seems clear that the second G13x (led tent) is also a male, so both are males. (see pic 1 of large G13 on left, outside the hot5 tent & pic 3 in led tent) Bummer

3 males out of 5 plants, with one large plant yet to be determined. I've never had such a high percentage of males. I blame the high heat
that I could not afford to control

Looks like 2 short WHx females + the large WHx has yet to express, so will pollinate one with WHx the other with the large G13x (pic 1-outside hot5 tent)

It's a girl- Finally

It's a girl- Finally

The tallest WHx finally began showing pistils, but only a few so far. :woohoo: Damn, she is shy

3/7 females- OUCH, but Melanie (the tallest) should make up for it with lots bud sites all over the long secondary branching. In future grows, from seed, I will keep more blue spectrum going until I see pistils. I think I flipped spectrums too soon, which could have caused more males

In the following 2 pics, I did not show the 3rd girl, which I brought up from the led tent, so you could get a better view of Melanie

Fresh nutes + cleaned tote, pump filters/socks

Also, after the photo shoot I took 6 clones from her lower branches

The clones are in a bubble bucket along side the tent

The stems are really strong, so I scraped the bottom ~ 1.5" then sliced the bottom ~ 1/2" to facilitate rooting

I added the NW ufo as side lighting, and will likely add the WW, at least until the clones root, then I will use the 2 ufos in the led tent to get veg rolling

I was concerned that it was going to be a male, but no. Lots of pistils only this afternoon. Whew

Clearly expressing sat dominance
. My last sat looked very much like this and grew a bunch of long buds

The other 2 are from same seed stock that I made, both are Indica dom- very short, tight nodes

Update

There are 3 plants, all from same seed stock. Sort of F2, but I only had 2 F1s germ. I pollinated and got ~ 30 seeds, so no choice as to which pheno to pollinate

If you look on the left side you can see the top of a small one (just below the cut out behind it).

The plant on the far right is pretty much identical- both expressing Indica, whereas Melanie (in the middle) continues to grow. I am almost out of height and may need to snap and run parallel. Not a bad thing

A tale of 3 plants all same WHxWW, pollinated with Bgum

The plant on the left is expressing both sat and indica, middle plant (Melanie) mostly sat, and plant on right mostly indica. The two plants on the outsides are almost the same height

As you can see I snapped Melanie to bring her closer to the others so they could get better light

I took 6 clones from Melanie, all are doing great, but no roots yet

Pic of plant on left also shows top bud from Melanie

Buds are developing nicely

Hung the other ufo to light both the clones and the male G13/WHx

Been collecting pollen and have pollinated a few of Melanies' branches + the WH/WWx on the right

Melanie's branches are overtaking the canopy. See pic of her main stalk

Melanie has grown so f'n big in 3 weeks, that I now have to bend her branches several times a day, just to keep them from growing into the reflectors

She is so wide that she is taking light away from the plants on either side. Most of what looks like tops of the other plants is actually Melanie

A bunch of these could be awesome. Just replace the engine with NW/WW chips COBs. The ability to aim at different angles is overlooked

When I started the magnet experiment I was unclear as to whether the magnets should be in attraction or repulsion, so I ran one rez each way. Eventually, I moved the females to my HOT5 tent where the magnets were in attract, but I put a ~ 1" neoprene plug in between, in hopes of creating an energy field in between.

Today, I came across a follow up youtube, and saw the ticket is repulsion, BUT, using metal shims between that make the opposing magnets attract to the metal shim in spite of wanting to repel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdbBQ...reply_received

I have some washers (too thin but...) and have reset the magnets. However, I am now quite far into flowering so no way to know what might have been

Anyway, plants are budding quite well and hopefully will bud even better now

As you can see, the foliage is pretty dense in the 2 x 4 grow area. Consequently, the girls are thirsty. A lot more water is being consumed. I start with ~ 850ppms each morning. The next morning the rez is back up ~ 1350 ppms.

For anyone who thinks hot5 bulbs don't burn, think again (see photo). I bend the canopy 3-4xs a day, as the branches keep bending towards the light. I could raise the fixture, BUT, I want to make sure the other 2 plants get good light as well.

Lower bud development is quite good, even on the plants that aren't really benefiting from the ufo side lighting

Should be ready to harvest in 4 weeks, which will be a waning moon cycle.

Dumped old nutes, cleaned pump filters. Should be good to go for the final 3-4 week push

The 2 pics of top colas are from plants on each side of Melanie

Note 2 pics where a portion of the ufo is visible. The leafs within range are much fuller, but buds do not seem to have benefited any more than other buds. Thinking to replace it with my 3.5 yo R/B ufo

Update a bit early, but thought it a good marker as I revised the magnets (see pic) which are positioned just after the riser tube on the pump.

After reviewing the youtube I noted that the magnets should be in repel BUT using a metal shim between makes them both attract to the shim, but repel each other

No idea how much this will help at this late stage, but time will tell

Pic of cola leaning to left is plant on left, the opposite of cola leaning to right, with Melanie in the middle

Well, something's going right.

Last grow it took forever for calyxes to develop, and they are already here

Also, buds seem ~ 30% fatter than 2 days ago

It just keeps gettin better led heat sink

increases thermal conductivity but also directly reduces production costs. In the case of applications that already had inadequate thermal conduction rates and then came to require an active cooling system, the reliance on these active cooling systems can be greatly reduced; reducing the size of these systems or eliminating them altogether will also reduce production costs.

Since I do not have a macro lens it's hard to capture the calyxes. I used a magnifying glass, but pic is kinda blurry

I'll be moving the 4 surviving clones (2 from smaller F1 WHxWW + 2 from Melanie) into the downstairs tent starting with the 2 ufos (3500- 5000k).

I wanted to move them over a week ago, but hurt my back. I need to configure a wood board with 2 eye hooks then contort to place it inside the tent, but could not think about it until today, and I'm still sore.

Looks like one of the clones got pollinated from the G13 male from when I had the clones in an open bucket. 2 days ago I moved them into my DIY bubbler with 35 lpm pump + 4 large oxystones

Been using V + B for ~ 5 grows now, and erred on the side of caution as to how much to push.

In the past I have kept to ~ 800-1000ppm during peak of bud development, then backed down weekly

This time I am inching it up to ~ 1200 for the last week, and now pushing it to ~1400. Buds look plumper today

It's a daily chore to keep rez ~ 1500. with all the leafs feeding off the lights to feed the buds, rez is down ~ 1 g/day, increasing the concentration to ~ 1900. My water level is ~ 5 gallons

Good problem to have, but I have the time to monitor. For those who don't, get a bigger rez, but that presents other problems
