Does Your Family Know About/Support What You Do?

I am curious about this, because mine sure doesn't. My four siblings are Neanderthals. They just don't get that cannabis IS medicine. They just think it's all about getting wasted, and is just a waste of time and somehow evil. There's no getting through to them, although all of them drink, sometimes to excess. Half of my one brother's friends have died young from alcohol abuse, yet they are self righteous, and feel it's O.K. to criticize me. It's SO frustrating when your own family members are against you. Anyone else NOT feeling the love? How do you get through to people like this?

I feel you brother. It took me a long time to break through to my family. It took a lot of patience. And even then, my dad died before he accepted my cannabis use. 1st piece of advice? Don't you ever be ashamed. Be open and honest. And if all else fails, you have family here, remember that.

They think I'm probably going to end up in prison or dead. Drama drama drama (although possible).

They don't morally object to the process (although they once did).

They only recognize that it is illegal and therefore, the consequences of a mis-step are very intense. As intense as it gets. Ask gypsy.

I don't come from the underground world or the streets. They think I'm not suited to this type of work. I don't disagree. Alas, I have concluded that a 9-5 life is an unacceptable, life-denying submission to the puppet masters. So on I go.

Forgive me for quoting a cliche from Don Corleone but it gets no better: "...And I refuse, to be a fool...dancing on a string for all those, 'bigshots. I don't apologize...'

As for morally objecting to being in canna sales let me be extremely blunt: they are either jealous, or stupid. Ten years ago I wouldn't say this. But in 2013, if you don't "get" that the marijuana industry is a beacon of morality compared to 99/100 other lines of work, you're a genuinely stupid person who isn't worthy of consideration or discourse.

These people are dipshits of the lowest order. It's simply impossible to be an intelligent and moral person in 2013 and have the view that marijuana distribution is an immoral profession.

I assume you disagree with this as your families POV is obviously eating at you. I am curious as to why you find their line of thinking anything but easily-dismissed?

When my parents were against this line of work (briefly) I still loved them and they loved me...but their arguments were so laughably naive that it didn't give me momentary pause or guilt.

My family haaaaaaaaaates it. Totally legal and they still hate it. Drinking and smoking cigarettes is totally accepted?

I guess I'm lucky but it's not unusual for us to have three generations passing a bowl. One of the pleasures of being the patriarch of a passle of freaks. Of course there are more distant family members who probably wouldn't approve but oh well, not my problem.

I'm with you, it's so damned hypocritical of "juice heads" and "tobacco heads" to criticize "pot heads." I've watched too many people dear to me die slowly and painfully from alcohol and tobacco, while we pot smokers just go on and on.

It takes a lot to reverse the effects of nearly a hundred years of intensive conditioning. Some people do eventually come around when they see that med pot states don't spontaneously combust or whatever it is they expect to happen, that they don't end up with thousands of dazed and crazed twinkie-eating couch potatoes.

Then of course there are the ones who will never believe the evidence of their own eyes.
They mistrust and deny the science. Personally, I prefer to just live and let live as long as they don't go to the extremes of calling the "authorities." I either avoid those people, avoid the topic of weed when talking with them, or use the subject as a "gas can" to get them going. It can be pretty entertaining.

I try not to take the criticism personally and remember that it's the result of an inflexible belief system built on ignorance. It's their problem, not mine. Sometimes it's hard to hold onto that attitude but holding your head high and knowing that you're on the side of truth helps.

Does Your Family support What You Do? No.
Do i give a shit? Absolutely not.

I once told my parents : If you wanna be two brainwashed losers all your life, go for it but don't try to impose your flawed way of life on me.

None of them ever supported my choices but here i am, a 20 years old, retired, homeowner.

The funny part is they still think they're the winners here being the 65 years old, alcoholic, 9 to 5 workers that they are.

No most of my family is against cannabis use, especially my parents who I'm sure were force fed the whole "Reefer Madness" thing while growing up. I haven't grown indoors in a while since I rent my grandparents home..kind of a respect thing I suppose. I do believe I'll have to try an outdoor grow next season, I really miss growing

Does Your Family Know About/Support What You Do? The long and short of it, Yes they know but no they sure don't support. We have a very long standing agreement, I won't talk about booze and they don't talk about canna. This has worked for many years.

when I was a kid my parents found out I was smoking and kicked me out of there house, we didn't talk for probably 12 years, until I got married. Now I'm sick and have a license to grow. They offer to come over and trim for me lol. Things have really changed.

You've got a long way to go before you can stand by what you said.

If it were my parents, I could understand. But it's my siblings, one of whom participated back when she needed the money. She didn't mind taking product on the arm when she needed it, but now, since I did time (and kept her out of it), she and the rest of them turned their backs on me and do nothing but bad mouth me. Holier than thou types. Never offered a bit of help when I got out and never visited me when I was in.
If the situation were reversed, I would never treat them that way.

No, I don't tell anyone, family or otherwise. Although most of them would be fine with it because most of my family smokes or grows themselves.

That's the moment when you find out who can handle a crisis and who can't. Some people are just shit at handling a crisis.

I have someone in my family who can handle crisis. And another who can't. One is worthless and one is strong, in that moment. Thankfully life isn't 100% crisis, so they have their strong points elsewhere. Some people are just built for it.

my family knows i toke for spasm relief but dont like it. my older sis could not handle the fact that i grow my own so she hasnt been told/show but the rest of my immediate family knows about my garden.

the sad thing is my dad is being treated for lung cancer and the anti-nausia pills dont work, he knows about how cannabis helps w/chemo sickness but refuses to take any b/c of the life time of propoganda regarding Cannabis.

i hate that i do not respond to pharmaceuticals but im a cannabis user for life.

I'm 58. I just don't give a shit now. It's their problem if they have some negative attitude about cannabis use. I figure some of my siblings (5 of 'em) know anyway really. They should by now. My attitudes have never been secret but I'm not going to discuss it with them. I was busted twice for procession way back in the early and mid '70s and I even wrote my term paper in high school on decriminalization. Things never really changed. I just got older. I did quit while working and raising a family.

I did violate rule #1 and tell my kids I grow a few years ago. Sorry I did. Such drama. They're just worried I'll get busted for cultivation and it'll screw me up bad. But I'm pretty careful. I try to use my head. It's still highly illegal especially here in this state. Better attitudes about it all everywhere though, but still fucked-up.

Posting here is about the only security weakness I have anymore. I don't even order seeds anymore (maybe just a little less ). I do have to buy grow stuff still. I guess that might look fishy because I have no other house plants. But again :woohoo:
