out hiking in an area I aint supposed to be in. ya fuck you government assholes. anywho got there just before sunrise . sat down and drank a coffee and smoked a j. when it was light enough I began hiking. long story short I saw bear scat and figures lets try an track this bear for fun. lost tracks in rocky area but bear was tearing up rotten logs in its path making it all to easy. tracked maybe another half mile and lost tracks. so I headed down animal path heanding to stream and crossed it. walked about a hundred steps and bam in a depression out pops a bear like a whack a mole lol we both froze for a moment an I said hi bear. he scampered up a tree quick as hell while I backed up slowly. very cool wish I had my camera with me . the bears look was priceless. yeehaw

lol . I actually got all I need to prevent injury from a bear. being as I am illegally trespassing why not break a few more laws too. no hunting tho just protection.i forgot how awesome it is to be near wildlife that can take you out if they wanted too. that bear was as shocked as me . I was really stoned . awesome I am gonna bait that area with a bit of catfish blood bait as an attractant an maybe get some pics. yeehaw . ranger no ranger blah its better now no people. lol with the lack of people I bet more wildlife shows its head for me. maybe I will get the mountain lion pic every guy wants.

Sounds totally amazing! Nothing like starring frightened wildlife eye to eye.
Except rattlesnakes.

was looking for future grow spots, then a big black bear was right in front of me, maybe 30 feet away, staring me down
he was not afraid, but that's what i said to him, hi! seemed to work, i survived anyways

While stumbling along a river I once had a startled tule elk with full headgear jump up from it's nap with a loud snort about fifteen feet in front of me. I'm embarrassed to say we both turned tail and ran. Wooeee!

In 1971 I was camping in Alberta in the Canadian Rockies with my girl friend in a pup tent asleep , and felt something brushing my fore head, after it annoyed me enough I opened my eyes and there was a huge black bears face in my face, I screamed which woke my girl friend and out the rear of the pup tent and into the van at the speed of light. I have had plenty of bear experiences , but this one was almost the scariest.

went back bear gone as expected but lots of sign in area it will be back. the only time I would be worried is suprising a bear or a mom. the spot I was going to there was no way to be total stealth and unless the bear was deaf and dumb it knew something was a coming LOL left a blueberry muffin.i got plenty of bear experience in my youth nut back then I couldn't afford a camera never mind paying for all the developing. god bless slr cameras

I had me a bear experience some years ago when I was hiking on the Appalachian Trail, I forget what state I was in at that point, I think it was Tennessee. My close encounter-of-the-bear-kind was the opposite of yours though. I was coming around a bend in the trail, going uphill, when all of a sudden I noticed a big black bear up in a tree about 30 feet getting some honey from a bee hive. As soon as I saw it, I froze in place, and the bear saw me at the same time, and he froze too. We just looked at each other for what seemed to be a few minutes, but was probably only about 15 seconds or so. Bears expression was also priceless, I know what you mean. :) The entire scene was a bit comical because the tree that the bear had climbed was fairly skinny, probably about 12" in diameter...the bear's size dwarfed the tree in comparison.

Anyways, me and the bear looked at each other for a bit...then the bear decided to climb back down the tree. And at the base of the tree was a nice little field, with grass about 3 ft high. When the bear reached the ground, it disappeared in the high grass...couldn't see the fellow at all. So now I'm standing on this trail, which a few feet forward starts to bend back in the direction of the bear, wondering what the hell should I do. Couldn't see the bear, didn't know what his plans were, etc. I think I stayed there frozen for about 5 minutes, not sure if I should go forward or backwards. I decided, as per the usual, to say "fuck it" and went forwards, hoping the bear wasn't feeling aggressive that day. Never saw him again. Great experience.

There was another hiker I had met at around the same time who had a different bear experience...he was walking the trail and all of a sudden 2 bear cubs come running out of the woods and onto the trail about 50 yards ahead of his position. He didn't see the mom, but knew she had to be close. He decided to turn around and walk the opposite direction. I think I remember him saying he started by walking, but soon took off at a gallop. That there is a truly scary bear experience...even without ever seeing the mother bear.

bear

You must have scared the living daylights out of that poor ole bear.

Did the pup tent originally come with a rear entrance?
this tent was open at both ends, but one time in kings canyon , I had to cut rear of tent out, to exit, bear was coming in front, I had my kids in tent.

when you see cubs your in deep shit with mom if ya aint carefull. my buddy went out early in maine before light. got in his tree stand.soon there was a mean momma bear growling/snorting at him at the tree base. seems a cub was up in the tree higher than him.he told me he climed high as he could an was able to scare the cub down as he was going up. he didn't wanna have to killmomma.he figured he scared mom an cubs on approach to the stand an one lone cub climed tree or didn't get down like the rest.yeehaw its encounters of the wild kind that give me a woody.

youare lucky bro,you did it all wrong.......2 major reasons why bears attack...one-protecting cubs...2-being surprised and in defense mode....never snaek up on a bear dude,ok,so you have a gun, kill a bear?it would have been your fault....i mean seeing a bear is very cool, but do it right bro/////
