I been thinking of trying a bed
its alot if work to setup, i have 5, but part of the reason i did them is the easy tranistion into next round, they seem to love the free range root option :pirate: ive read most of your threads man, nice work

Yes, please post some pics of the beds themselves, and guide us thru the setting up, straight coco [?], drainage, etc. I very interested. Thanks. -granger

whatsup Poopy and Granger,
i have the flower room 16x20 and a smaller control room 8x20 ajj my nutes, tools, res, moms and clones are in there...

beds have smart pot liner, 8 bags of coco per 4x8, 1.5 bags chunky perlite and some hydroton cuz i had a few bags, chowmix with crumbled blue cheese :D i put about an inch or so of perlite at the bottom for max drainage...55 gallon res with 1.5 reeflo pump...1 inch pvc plumbed around the perimeter of the room and capped off, diverts to individual trays with octa bubblers and sprayers, i have 5 will do 6 now that its cooled off in socal, sprinkler valves wired to a rainbird, i water about 20-25 seconds 1st water and 15-20 2nd...2 feeds a day...trays drain to a tote, 1 on each side of room with a sump in each that pumps it out to waste drain...i built this room from ground up so it was a shitload of work, once the beds are running its really smoothe...i water manually i could do timer but minimum setting is 1 min and its not necessary to run that long, and im hands on i like being around and doing the detail work
leme know if that covered it or anything more specific you need, its really not a difficult setup, more work than the avg for sure but once its done youre golden :pirate: def not good for a short term setup

hose from the T's so i can move the trays there on wheels

thanks for the pics! been lookin at trying beds myself. how do you have your pots drain into the tote with the pump on it?

Are you reusing your coco each run? Ammending it with anything after each run? What kind of nutrients are you running?

thanks in advance

Would this work in a tent with a 4X4....if you were going to water manually....how would you do that......large garbage pail with a pump and sprayer hose. bucket underneath the tray for drainage?

Thanks

heya TWL, i just have a regular flood drain table drain, 3/4 with hose that just runs into the tote top, cut a hole in the lid..this is the 1st run and yes i will be reusing it, thats one of the big advantages of beds, ill amend with cannazym most likely..i run heavy 16 and aptus, i brew tea as well, theres a drain line pic :pirate:

Pizzaman, sure itll work in a 4x4, use a tray liner from smart pot, you can use a tote for a res, you really dont need anything huge, 20ish gallons or so, a 5 gallon bucket will work to drain, anything bigger u can put a small pump in it and run a hose to a drain manually, i feed just until i get a small run off, hope that helps

thanks ss66! so are you angling your beds at all for runoff to flow to the drain? im really interested in these but i cant seem to wrap my head around how it drains. Im lookin at using a 4x4 botanicare tray with a smart pot liner...but the only way i can think of it working is to slant it so runoff pools towards the bottom, where a drain is fitted

u just prop one side up so it ramps to drain, piece of wood, pvc, family cat, anything solid will work

Thanks op.....quick question..since I run perpetually....I was thinking about handfeeding with a wand and pump out of a brute. Could I veg in small pots from clone.....for like 3 weeks...and then put them right in the beds and flip them? Or does vegging have to be done in the beds to be optimal?

thanks

i vegged and transplanted just give them time to allow the roots to spread out vegging in the bed, its a 4x4 so it shouldnt take long, dont water everyday so they search and spread...youll see them pushing through the smart pot liner..ive never done any flowering in a tent but 3 weeks seems like long veg in a tent i considering you have limited height you need to be careful , i vegged for like 2.5 and theyre big ass plants, depends on the genetics tho

hey ss....thanks....but I don't veg in a tent..my tents are strictly for flowering. The thing is...I wont have time to veg...I will have to veg in pots...and then I could put them in the bed.....but I would have to flower them out right away. This lends me to think that I should just keep them in smart pots or something.

I have about 3 weeks to veg and to take cuttings...and then they have to go right in to flower.

theres transplant shock to account for...roots stop growing in the 2nd or 3rd week of flower i forget which, u have to give em a few days for the shock then flip em, theyll still spread out but if it were me id give them more time to establish, thats my 2 cents
