Sounds like the perfect storm. First rain of the season floats loose a summer's worth of worn rubber and road oil. Five minutes of rain was the ultimate set-up, leaving a slushy slick of lubricant across the pavement.

He's thinking about this being the last day on his job. Thinking about how he won't be able to get another driving job to replace this one. Thinking about keeping a roof over his wife and children. Hopefully he's not thinking about failing the drug test that he'll be required to take very soon because of his DOT commercial license.

I hope he keeps his job. My father lost his rig in the mountains one night because of a "four wheeler" and also lost his job. The economy was shit then and he was without work for a long time, it took something out of him.
