lets start this thing off on the good foot with some good ol' reality and honesty. I like ICMAG and all its characters and respect it for what it offers and provides BUT if it were to go up in flames tomorrow it wouldn't be any skin off of my teeth because the reality is that 1) there are soo many other sites and 2)how would my life change for the better or worse?

this thought came about because im on here going through the new posts, clicking on the threads of interest and am noticing a lot of ppl either neg reping someones post of neg reping a whole bunch of posts and yadda yadda and im thinking to myself "who gives a fuck because what does it ULTIMATELY matter? why go into lashing back at the person or "going after them" or even mentioning it for that matter? matter of fact we can back it up even further and ask the question what purpose does neg/positive rep serve and why is it even there as part of the posting apparatus of the site?

is there something that happens to your account if you get too many negative rep points? what aspects of your life are affected by these things that you have to either neg rep'd someone or respond to someone that has neg rep'd you?

what is it? do your plant's eventually dry out and die? does your wife/husband leave you for the person that gave you the neg rep? do your plants go into full on hermie? do you experience 7 years of bud rot? I mean what the hell is it about this neg rep shit that ppl get so up in arms about?

does ICMAG have that special of a place in your life that it matters that much?

sometimes I go back over my own posts and laugh at some of the things ive said to a couple other clowns on here that I wish I could get my hands around their necks, but common sense dictates that im not going to agree with everyone on here and vice/versa.

I dunno, I come here for the latest grow information, the bs I pretty much ignore. ;) I would definitely miss ICMag. This is a great site, and my favorite.

Reputation and posts determines how big your Internet penis is.

It's just a marketing tool inspired by video games trying to get people addicted to the site.

The main reasons why video games are so addictive are :

1. Because video game companies spend millions on psychologists
2. Because you must achieve certain goals in order to beat the game.

Well, the same principles applies here, in order to "beat" ICMAG you must have the most posts and the best reputation.

I would survive...because of all the great info I've picked up over the yrs.Strain reports, plant issues etc. I do owe a whole bunch to the community in general here for setting me on a better course than if it had never been.

I had to fight the urge to give you negative rep! Haahahha . No just joking. This place is awesome, but it is best not get worked up over neg rep. It doesnt affect you account anyway. Just enjoy IC Mag and live life.

Everything that has a beginning, always has an end.

And as far as rep and post counts, for most they obviously matter, for a few I'm sure they don't.

The post count show how active a member is in the forum, and the amount of positive reps shows how the posts are rated by the members.

Rep is feedback, and is only seen by the person receiving it, so while there maybe negative posts in relation to what someone writes, there can be many positive reps by folks that don't want to write a post, but do want to support a viewpoint of a member.

I look at it all with tongue securely in cheek. What are your priorities in life? Personally, this shit ranks near the bottom in mine. It has always also seemed to me that someone who put a lot of time and effort in having a big e-penis must be making up for some shortcomings IRL.

I don't give a crap about getting neg rep. I give positive rep a lot, but I rarely give neg rep. If I do, I don't puss out and hit the "did you find this post helpful?" button, I hit the scale and you KNOW I neg repped you 'cause I tell you why. Same for positive rep.

If you're gonna do it, do it right. Be a man, don't hide behind an anonymous rep. Step up and tell the person why you repped them either way.

I would miss ICMag very much as I have made friends with quite a few like minded individuals from around the world, who I get along with on a daily basis but like you say it's just the internet, and there are more websites/forums out there but none will ever hold the information ICMag holds.
:smoke out:

ICMag is a good place to see what everyone else is doing. Being a contrarian...that is important to me.

IMHO, it seems that the children on this site argue "opinion" and "neg rep" when you disagree with them...whereas most of the adults are willing to debate/argue "facts"--and save the "neg rep" thing for "hillbilly idiots" that believe "their opinion" should be "universal fact".

I respect "opinions", as these are personal, not provable, and something that everyone is entitled to! But when it comes to "facts", these are generally accepted concepts that are evidentiary in nature...you can usually "prove" something to either be true or false; seldom does persuasion become necessary when the facts are on your side--not so when facts are against you.

Cheers!

Being "hurt" or "upset" is an ego thing...and I doubt most of us that posted thus far have an "ego that is easily bruised". For me it's "why the neg rep" on posts that are truly non-confrontational, rationale, informative, and/or links to an authoritative source that may support your position.

On the rare occasions when I have my facts wrong and lose a debate--barraging the "winner" with a litany of personal insults/name calling is something I don't do...same with most people (why burn bridges?). But in internet forums there are those that feel "empowered" (due to anonymity) and behave differently in the "virtual world" than they do in "real life" (neg repping for hatred sake, wimps behaving as bullies, fools pretending to be experts, etc).

Me...I is what I is: I don't know much--but what I do know, I know very well.

Cheers!

I was hoping that one of them would have created a slime trail to the thread and weigh in on the topic but alas im guessing this thread is more like the salt to a slug.

I too don't give positive or negative rep since I don't believe in it and could careless about it. I have to admit that if IC were to go under I would be miffed but it would be for milliseconds and I think I agree with just leaving the whole online grow forum thing alone altogether and opt out for going to rallies and festivals and actually meeting with ppl and networking.

I actually thought that I could get some networking done here but ive learned that internet sites arent the proper forum for meeting ppl.
