Hep with DWC transplant

Day 12 from seed Transplant

I transplanted the rock wool cube my 5 gallon dwc bucket

My ppm of my tap water measured at 160 and my ph was 7.9

I added a teaspoon of Floramicro, Floragro, and Florabloom to my res. After i added the nuts the ppm measured 565 and ph 6.9. I added GH ph down to get the ph to 5.7. I rinsed the hydroton 3-4 times to get all the dust and everything washed off the pellets. I then placed one layer of hydroton on the bottom of the netpot and put my rockwool cube on that first layer and put more hydroton around the rockwool to cover it up and support the stem. Heres some pics of the process

Do i have to top feed my seedling or just leave it and when i top of my reservoir to i just use my tap water and then ph the res? Im new to hydro

I usually let the water Barely touch the hydroton.. Enough so that it can wick up and get to the roots. You may have to top feed. You want to fill the resivior with water and nutes and then ph .. If you can get some bubbles bursting right under the net pot that may be enough to feed the roots..

I don't let the solution touch the medium, esp if you have some rockwool in there from the cube. I hand water from the top every 6 hours until the roots hit the solution on their own. It should only take a few days for that to happen.

Thanks i have the water level about a half inch maybe a bit less under the net pot but the bubbles are definitely splashing the bottom layer of hydroton. I checked my ph and its at 6.5. I used my GH ph down and got it down to 5.8 Is that normal for it to fluctuate over night? I noticed when i left the water i used to soak my rockwool cubes (phd 5.5) it also went up when i checked it the next day. I left it in a bowl overnight in my grow room and i checked the ph just out of curiosity and it read 6. something.

I also checked the other rockwool cube i have in the humidity dome and its now got two roots coming through the bottom.

Thanks Snype, should i use my tap water to hand feed. And how much water should i use for this seedling? Im browsing through some of your threads and just have to say big props for all the useful info you provide. Definitely a huge help for a new grower like myself

Another question, is my ppm to high at 570?

I am currently running a hydro with the G&E line. I usually have my ppm up near 600-800 when they start and quickly transition to over 1200... but it all depends on youre strain in alot of cases. what i did was added nutrients till i saw the leaves start to burn on the tips. at that point i checked the ppm i was at about 1850-1900 and i realized ok.. there is my limit. granted im new to this as well im no pro like snype but that is what i know so far. I hope this helps man!

Your PPM is too high for seedlings. Go to 300 or less. Hand water with your solution, not water. Stress in RDWC = Failure. pH should fluctuate for the first day or too but should stabilize after that for a while. I take it your tap water is probably high and that's why that happens to me with 8.2 tap water. After a couple of days my solution stabilizes after adding some pH down over that time.

Ok, im going to try and dilute the solution i have now. My tap water has a ph of 7.8 and a ppm of around 160

Should i just refill my bucket with tap water and not use any nutes? When i first filled my bucket i added about 4 gallons of water and added a teaspoon of Flormicro, Floragro, and Florabloom. And what should my ph level be around? On the bottle it says beetween 5.5-6.5 but reading the forums i see some ppl say different.

I don't use the Grow but that doesn't mean that you can't. I just see that's there's plenty of N in the Micro. 1 tsp of each of those is 5 mL of each in 4 gallon. I would be using 2 mL Micro and 3 mL Bloom for seedlings per gallon which would be 8 mL micro and 12 mL Bloom for 4 Gallon. You are a little high for me personally but I would just dump out half the solution and refill that with tap and some pH down to 5.8. Your nutrient solution will rise if all is working right. Let it rise to 6.2 and then pH it down to 5.8 again and repeat that. When your plants get up to the 4th or 5th node, you can go to 4 mL Micro and 6 mL Bloom. You really don't need the VEG and I don't use the VEG ever. Try it out sometime if you're comfortable. Just remember that less is more, esp in RDWC. Make sure that you got good air going on in those buckets too. Personally for each 4 Gallons of solution I'd be running an air pump rated at 2 Gallon / Minute for each bucket. You can get by with half that but if you are using less air, make sue your water temps don't go past 70 degrees F.

Thanks again :)

I dumped the bucket as soon as i seen your post and just filled it up again and added the nuts at a lower strength and phd the water to 5.8. Im using a kitchen measuring spoon for adding my nutes for now so i added about a little less then half of the teaspoon. I got my ppm down to 310 now.

Heres what im using for measuring. I need to go to walmart and pick up a ML dropper

What you want to do is check your PPM in 5 days or so because your plants are small. You want to top off your bucket to the same place that it is at today to be accurate. Draw a line in the bucket where the water level is. In about 5 days, after you top off, check the PPM. If the PPM is the same as it is now, you are too high. You want to see your plants eating those nutes.

Ok, i drew a line on the drain tube i have on my bucket. When i top off my bucket to i just use regular tap water and ph it? And for hand feeding how much should i be giving them when watering. I believe you said to use the nutrient solution i already have in my bucket now. Is it ok to hand feed them even though they are in the rock wool cubes in the hydroton? Sorry for the rookie questions but i really appreciate all your help!

Yeah you just use the solution that you already have. I like to take a quart jar and slowly pour a couple jars from the top, every 6-8 hours for mini-blocks. When you top off your solution, just add water. You might not need to pH but you will need to check to see. You really only have to pH down to 5.8 once you hit 6.2. It's good to go through a slight range.

Ok thanks, quick question. When i top feed with the quart jar do i just pour directly around the stem of the seedling or do i just pour the water around the whole netpot making sure to cover all the hydroton. Is the idea to keep the rockwool moist or to keep the hydroton wet? And for this size seedling would 2 quart jars be too much water or does that not matter? Sorry for all the questions.

It's not really about the rockwool. I make sure to get all of the hydroton wet but I'm not interested in the rockwool cube at all. Don't worry about the questions. It's really not a problem. Let us know how it works out for you.

I top feed the dwc bucket twice today. Heres how she's looking. My ph went up from 5.7 to 6.5/6.6 so i ph down my res back down to 5.7. My ppm is at 320

Heres the other two i have in the humidity dome

Heres some new roots poking out the other rock wool cube

Heres my journal
