Balls at start of flowering and then normal flowers??

Hello all,

I made some fem seeds for myself from 2 nice mother plants.
Neither of them showed balls at anytime.

I am growing 2 plants from the fem seeds and both of them grew some balls at the start of flowering, which I picked off....

Now they are growing like regular females?

I read in the connoisseur genetics subforum that they have had this happen sometimes as well.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Thanks for any help. :thank you: :ying:

I had this happen with some dna genetics gear, i did however transplant from dwc to soil for flowering. Had a chat to dna guys and they said "we test our gear its because of the transplant" which was a reponse i expected, i trimed the sacks in week 2 and havent seen any since currently at week 6. I am expecting to see some upon harvest time. Im running kandy kush and torabora

I thought it might be because of the transplant too, but there were 2 other plants that were transplanted that didn't grow balls?

Maybe fems are more sensitive?

The current consensus is that epigenetic changes don't get passed on long term down the successent generations. However in the one generation following a major incident in the life span of an organism, some of those epigenetic changes do seem to express.
Therefore in the case of femmed seeds, the reversal of one female to produce pollen, may in fact be contained in the "genetic memory" of the offspring, who may begin the same process at first sexing. However in the absence of the necessary stimuli, this process could "correct" and cease.

I didn't quite pull all of the balls off in time and have some seeds forming.

Should I put those seeds in the bin?

Great info here. Both GMT and AlterEgo860. Well spoken.
I use accidental hermi offspring to test new outdoor spots as well.
GMT is right. I couldnt have said it with such scientific precision. LOL
I would just tell you that this has happened to me with fem seeds and regs.

They usually show in the pre-flower area.
Once picked off, they dont grow back and the plant is perfect.
Also check on the extreme bottoms of each bottom budsite. Pull the budset away from the main stalk or branch and check the inside bottoms. This area is what usually goes unseen until its to late, and red hairs are poppin up like Vikings at a beard growing contest.

This is what Dutch Master Reverse w/ Saturator was invented for.
It stops the formation of male parts so watermelons can be seedless.
In MMJ, it stops a female from becoming a hermi.
It stops the x chromosome (male) before it forms.
I use this 2x in transition just incase. As a preventative.

Under different circumstances i would always say yes, but in these very specific circumstances I would say no, grow them out. They would go some way towards confirming what I wrote if they behaved themselves as I suspect they will.
Conduct some science for the boards and let us know how they do.

So, you think they won't produce balls because they are the second generation from having the stressful experience (CS)?
