EcoPlus Water Pump Question

I've done a search and can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I'm running my first UCDWC, and my ecoplus water pump has an outlet attachment called "Air Supply Outlet". Its similar to astandard barb for the water pump, but has a small 'T' where the air supply can tap in. It allows me to put a line from my air pump, into the water being pumped from my EcoPlus.

Can anyone provide any insight into any advantages this could offer, instead of just using an airstone for the same line?

When the pump turns on it allows air, via an air tube, to be siphoned into the water stream allowing for O2 addition to the rez. O2 addition to the rez/nute solution is better added via a air pump and stone as it runs 24/7 instead of just the time the pump is operating.
