First time grower

Been lurking the forum for awhile now and finally decided to join. I'm currently setting up for my first grow ever now that I have space for it. Debating between super soil or happy frog since I want to try out organic first. Looking forward into my new hobby and excited to see where it will take me!

Your first time, keep it as simple as possible.

A good potting soil, earthworm castings, kelp, molasses, Phed water. This will get you through a harvest if you transplant correctly.

Read all the stickies at the top of the forum. Research now prevents buttache later.

Dial in the environment.

Learn to read your plants. If they're unhappy, you'll see signs of it.

Buy a moisture meter from a nursery. Let the needle go all the way to dry before watering. I tend to water too soon if I lift the pots looking for light ones.

That's the basics. Go thou and grow the dankest of the dank. bg

On my first grow as well. 2 weeks from seed, and even though there's not much going on yet, i'm obsessed! Best of luck, peacee

Starting my grow also. Doing half bio-buckets and half TLO. I was also trying to make a decision on soil. So thanks for your post.

Multiple unrelated sources have suggested that FoxFarm is having quality control issues lately. Based on that alone I would recommend against them. I used to be a fanatic of Happy Frog soil, and I had to reluctantly find another brand after I experienced this firsthand.

I switched to Sunshine Advanced Mix #4 and I couldn't be happier! I grow all my mother plants in it now. (Also all of my african violets!)

How's the drainage on the Sunshine? Did you need to add perlite?

No, it has no nutrients in it, you can pop seeds in it or put clones in it. You need to amend as you see fit, or use bottled nutes.
