what better way to judge a soil than to document a grow in it?
it's a micro grow, so it will be a 1 oz kind of plant, hopefully
14 days of veg, looks happy enough, a nirvana PPP x Cali-O cross

Buried manure is slow to decompose. Fine during the veg period, but releases to much N in later stages.

buried manure should already be decomposed into humus. humic substances are organic
"on demand" plant nutrient reservoirs and do not work the same as an ionic based bottled nute.

to sum it up; buried manure won't release N unless the plant asks for it.

This manure is almost certainly scraped out of beef feedlots. Feedlots use "the woiks" when it comes to antibiotics, hormones, etc. The other matter is almost certainly not organic. If it were, it would state so, since organic is a selling point and demands a higher price. I'm not trying to douse you're use of it, just calling it like I sees it. Good luck. -granger

no question that it's not Organic with a capital O
antibiotic traces are a possibility, but what impact would they have?
significant plant absorbtion seems not very likely, but i have no hard data on that
and growth hormones are injected if i recall correctly, and should not be present in the manure

I've been trying to read up on hormones. Just basics like what they are and what they do. So far I'm at least skeptical of dangers, but open to know more. Now I need to learn how they are made. Probably cultured some how.

^^^ always happy to learn something, so feel free to post

on to the grow at 20 days, i'll admit to being pleased with the mix
supplemented with bone meal and dolomite, but that's it
very solid veg for my chamber, on to flower and see if it holds

The plant's intention is to live and thrive, not grow up and be smoked. It is always "asking" for nitrogen. Kind of like I'm always asking for ice cream. I love it, but too much is too much. You can compare it to a tomato plant. Too much N and you get a beautiful green plant with no tomatoes.

Subbed! I want to see how she does in such a simple and cheap mix. Are you going to feed at all or go water only?

that is the question, i think i will have some organic tea ready to go(alfalfa) but if i see no deficiencies signs, i may try to ride it out with just water

2 weeks of flower, pretty good looking lady i think
pistils are popping strong, fairly strong skunk odor is present
now to the soil, no additional feeding yet, just water
one lower fan leaf tip has a touch of yellow, nowhere else that i see
that has got my ass moving on tea brewing, hoping it won't be needed

3 weeks of the 12/12(or so), it's cruising nicely in this cheap dirt
smell is excellent, lost the skunk and seems to be mostly lemon
there was some minimal color loss down low, not even visible in the pic
but sensed maybe she was sucking fumes, so fed yesterday
not a super soil grow, but still happy

You know ... my first grow was in plain promix with literally TWO tablespoons of tomato tone in a 1 gallon pot (micro grow). Turned out awesome. lol

In the quest for mindblowing (literally) smoke, we tend to overthink things. Once, in CA, a friend of a friend showed me an absolutely monster melon. I was amazed, and asked him how it got so big. His answer? "Manure!"

I have a friend growing in mostly horse manure. He tops off his bed at the end of the season. Lots and lots of worm action. I've tried it in a fresher state and it dried out quickly and really didn't make a good mix. Reading Garden Web, there is a post about magnesium build up over time, but so far, so good. Of course there's antibiotics and dewormers to be concerned about. Organic, no. Earth friendly, I think so.

Too busy thinking to have any thoughts.

I don't grow in straight manure..I'll spare you the list. I am the obsessive kind, so I use like twenty different amendments. :/
