I didnt think it was that close. With the 49/ 47 call.48/47 yeah but 49/47 was a lil much.Fight could of went either way so as far as who won,i wouldnt be mad either way with who won...Much class by both imo.No crying and no gloating while giving eachother there props they deserved.
Gustafsson got robbed. UFC is as bad as boxing now.
Jones got beat up. The only round he might have won, which I say he didn't, was the 4th round and that was the elbow in the last minute and half that he won that part. But for 3 minutes if the 4th he got beat up some more.
Gustaffson was robbed. He won four of the five rounds. He landed so many punches to Jones face it was incredible! I had a feeling the judges would rob him. Great fight, but bad decision. Gustaffson was gassed at the end, but he still had so many points built up it should have been unanimous for him. I also thought that John Jones poked him in the eye intentionally. He went right at his face with all fingers extended.
sorry i feel to beat a champ you need to make it definitive not a close decision. Jones won but he had all he could handle. The mauler will improve and we will see this again in the future. One thing i learned from tonight is that Jones is not a heavy weight.
I am a Jones fan, but I am a Gustafsson fan too....
I think Jones was slightly over-confident and lack lustre at the beginning.
I think Gustafsson probably won the first 3 and Jones the last 2, but was close.
Jones could have won 1 of the first 3, Gustafsson was wobbly in the 4th and 5th.
Could have gone either way.
A properly motivated Jones will win the re-match I presume.......
Close fight, wasn't surprised by the decision, at least the 48-47 scores. Jones laid a lot of kicks down, although Gus laid a lot more punches.
Like the Spider-Weidman fight, this time the champ ran into someone his own size. I thought Jones, against smaller opponents, did an excellent job of striking at distance, delivering damage while taking none.
This time, when Bones went for jabs, Alex was able to wing that left hand into Jones' head repeatedly. Jones' lips swelled up grotesquely, and he was spitting blood during the fifth round. Alex was able to lay some right hands in as well.
His reach neutralized Jones' striking advantage, and Jones took more damage this fight than any other.
He probably gave Gus a concussion though, with the elbow and knees to the head in the 4th. So both of them got messed up, just a great fight to the end.
Next time they fight, probably Jones goes for more takedowns. He only tried for one or two the first 2 rounds, and Gus stuffed them. Finally got Gus down on the ground in the 4th or 5th but by then was too tired and beat up to do anything and Gus backed to the cage and stood it back up.
When they fight again, if Jones goes for more take downs early on, even if he gets stuffed most times, he only needs to get Gus on the ground once or twice and then he can lay on him, tire him out and get some good elbows in as well. Otherwise, if he keeps it standing, i think its a draw, or maybe Gus lands a solid overhand right on the chin and its good night Bones.
I have a lot of respect for Bones, he showed a lot of heart during a period of vulnerability. Thats the mark of a champion.
@Chazz
They measure fingertip to fingertip while fighter stand with both their arms extended like a cross, so yes they measure wingspan and call it "reach"
